D.C. Public Schools is preparing to cancel its founder and the city’s first mayor as it moves to rename an elementary school on Capitol Hill. Brent Elementary School in Southeast—named for Robert Brent, who essentially created the city’s government from scratch in the early 1800s—is among a handful of schools in the renaming engagement process, which aims to erase the names of slave owners and segregationists from school buildings in the 2023-24 academic year. Born into a prominent Catholic family in the Maryland Colony, Brent served 10 years as mayor of Washington City. He created the public school system, the fire department and the police force

Isn't DC schools spending the most per student of any school district in the country? What have they got to show for that?

How about they cancel the Democrat party that fought a civil war to keep slavery? A Democrat party that assassinated the Republican President who freed the slaves? The Democrat party that created the Ku Klux Klan? The Democrat party that created all those Jim Crow laws? The Democrat governors that stood in the doorways of schools to keep the black students from getting in? The largest slave owners this country has ever seen is the Democrat party.

Sure, change the name because he owned slaves when it was legal to do so. Yet, they will turn around and name streets, parks, schools, and office buildings after drug dealers, murderers, and thieves. They will want holidays to remember thugs, gang members, drug dealers, and rapists who were stopped and possibly killed by the police. I'm not sure which is worse, naming a school after a former slave owner who actually contributed to society or glorifying criminals.

If the Black community wants to purge buildings, parks, holidays, highways, and everything else named for someone who may have done something that in the past what is now considered racist , they are going to be very busy. Why don't they start with just about every public building and roadway in West Virginia named after Democrat favorite, Robert Byrd. The former KKK leader would certainly fit into this category.

These morons need to actually get a life. Slave holding was actually legal during the time. And who care what was done back then anyway? Are any slaves currently alive today?

But it's a grievance that they want to hold on to, #9, because it's done so much for so few.

Missionaries who travelled to Afrika to teach reading, writing, etc. and instead became a pot roast, perhaps we should name a few schools over here after them. I believe we can be certain none of them owned slaves!

When I saw "slaveholding founder" I thought of George Washington. Sit tight, soon enough he'll be cancelled too. Men of accomplishment tossed on the scrap heap of history by revisionist Marxists, replaced by random people who boast the accomplishment of being black.
