Joe Biden announced Thursday a $30 million investment in U.S. trucking as administration officials meet with industry leaders in an effort to attract new drivers in the midst of a massive supply chain crisis.
The White House said in a fact sheet on the new plan that the COVID-19 pandemic 'exacerbated longstanding workforce challenges in the trucking industry, including high turnover rates, an aging workforce, long hours away from home, and time spent waiting.'
The new action plan, including the new investment, is an action from the administration's Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force, which was launched in June to 'lead whole government effort' to address bottlenecks.

They need to change the emission on standards go trucks in CA to solve the issue. Truckers cannot afford new rigs to met the CA emission standards

The other issue is California law dictating high level emissions standards that limit what trucks are able to operate in that state. In other words blame the truckers and not the goobermint greeny regulations.

Oh Yeah - That'll fix it.
Here's all you need to know: Teamsters President Jim Hoffa in a December 1 Detroit News opinion piece argued there 'is no shortage of experienced truckers. However, there is a problem with these drivers getting fair pay and treatment from their employers.'

Biden and his ilk caused the crisis, and now, he is throwing our money at it to try to fix it.

It takes more than a Class A CDL to be a “truck driver”. It takes common sense, planning, a sense of responsibility and a regard for safety, to name a few necessary traits. My husband and his driver friends talk constantly about this new class of driver and they are pathetic. Putting people behind a wheel is not the solution. That type of driver is called “meat in the seat” for a reason. There is not a driver shortage. There is a good driver shortage.

How about canceling the emissions standards imposed years ago on big rigs so they can pick up loads at backlogged ports in CA? That's not going to happen. We must continue to fight climate change even if it kills the economy and puts people out of business and into bankruptcy courts.

The guy who caused the problem says he fixed the problem. I am confident that 1) I won't hear another word about ports from the media because the problem has been "fixed" and 2) the problem is now worse.

The government should also stop the satellite tracking system, telling drivers how long they have to sleep, and other back-biting regulation.

The $30MM will go to writing MORE restrictions and administrative rules that will make it harder to hire truckers, train truckers, keep truckers working, and get product to the consumer.

If ;you have looked at truck drivers recently, a good many of them may not be citizens. The DOT website says you must present proof of citizenship or lawful presence. I would bet a good many of those I see on the road are refugees that have been given green cards. To me this is a ploy to get even more of those that do not belong in this country jobs and take jobs from those that do belong here. Oh and to pay them less than they deserve for the work they do.

I'm 100% sure every penny will go to unions. Definitely none will go to a self-employed driver to expand their fleet.

$30M for how many entities?
A penny for every pocket... The harm it does to the source will be greater than the help it gives to the recipients (a typical socialist band-aid).

Every time I get in a CCC (Concrete Construction Canyon) with an 18 wheeler I follow for at least a mile to see how stable he is. Especially night time and rain. An increasing number can't hold a lane that long. Sorry folks behind me. I'm not getting squished.

So why doesn't Dementia Joe get in a truck and fix the shortage all by himself? He's a fully qualified driver, right?

$30 million, eh? Did a few Democrats sell their summer cottages to fund this? $30 million doesn't sound like much to fix the trucking industry. Seriously.
How many new semi tractors does $30 million purchase? I Googled it. It would buy about 200 of them at an average cost of $150,000 a piece. That's four new semi tractors per state. Doesn't sound like much to me.

I searched the Constitution and cannot find any provision for this “investment.” It must be under the “emanations and penumbras” of that hallowed document.

It doesn't matter how much he offers, people used to being supported for doing nothing won't take difficult jobs for even a lot more money.
I know a vaccuum cleaner supply shop that can't find a front desk person at even $25/hour.

First, not the government's business. Second, a pittance. Fed spends more than that every three minutes.

More smoke and mirrors crapola. $30M is chump change. Xiden just trying to look like he is doing something when in fact they are just throwing some taxpayer money to the trucking bosses as a bribe. Will not do anything at all. The massive shortage of truck drivers is due to the fact that so many of them cannot pass drug screenings anymore, especially due to widespread 'legalization' of pot at the state level. Combined with the stupid vax mandates that many companies are pushing and restrictions on hours the truckers can work, and you have an unsolvable crisis caused by meddling governments.
