Jussie Smollett's Subway sandwich was
key to case, ex-Chicago police superintendent says

Actor Jussie Smollett was found guilty of lying to police last week after he claimed he was the victim of a hate crime in 2019 and, of all things, a Subway sandwich was a key piece of evidence in the case against him, the former Chicago police superintendent said, according to reports. Ex-Superintendent Eddie Johnson told NewsNationNow's "Morning in America" that Smollett left his home around 2 a.m. on the day he claimed to be attacked to buy the sandwich. "OK, that’s fine," Johnson said, adding that morning was one of the coldest in Chicago that year and hardly anyone was on the street.

I thought his claim that his attackers just happened to have a rope tied like a noose with them was even more tell-tale, but this aspect was obvious also. They beat you up, poured bleach on you, but there was no harm to your sandwich? And you were eating it when cops arrived?

Will Jussie get one of those 'prison tats' of barbed wire around his biceps or neck maybe join a black gang for protection? Jussie just might gain some street creds after his stint in prison like in Shawshank redemption. Subway needs to invent a foot long Smollett sandwich just stale bread with nothing inside.

I never leave the house without at least some bleach on my person. But wasn't it originally claimed by him that his assailants recognized him as a gay black actor on "Empire"? That was a red flag for me. There are no "racist" MAGA people who were watching "Empire". At best, they were probably dimly aware the Cuba Gooding Jr. was on the show, and that only from commercials.

The weather was the giveaway. If you have ever experienced -20• weather or anything close Smollett’s story that he would be out in it at all, let alone at 2:00 a.m….to get a sandwich...was a knee-slapper. The two men wandering around in that weather with a noose and bleach looking for a random black, Trump-hating homosexual was even more laughable. Saying that anywhere within Chicago city limits is MAGA country is a howler. Some criminals are heinous but receive grudging respect for wit, even genius. But Smollett is just a joke.

With a massive build of Russian troops near Ukraine’s border, Russia’s Vladimir Putin is indicating a willingness to risk a military conflict, but analysts say while the threat is serious, an invasion is not certain. The threat of an invasion will be the central subject of President Biden’s video call with Putin on Tuesday. Biden is expected to warn of dire consequences should Russia follow through with a military offensive, while Putin is expected to reiterate his ultimatum that NATO should not allow Ukraine to join its military alliance. The outcome of the video call could have major implications as Putin weighs the potential costs of a full-fledged invasion of Ukraine.

Everyone’s understandably focused today on how Cheney embarrassed Trump Jr and the Fox News gang by reading their texts to Trump on January 6. Ed has a nice write-up about it here. But don’t miss the forest for the trees. The point Cheney was making isn’t that Fox News hosts are hypocrites, although they are.
