China is building a 12,000mph hypersonic plane that will be able to take 10 passengers to anywhere in the world within an hour.
The 148ft (45 metre) long plane is nearly a third larger than a Boeing 737 and features delta wings similar to Concorde, but with the tips pointed up. Officials aim to have a fleet of the aircrafts by the end of 2035 and expand the planes to carry 100 passengers by 2045—although their purpose has not yet been made clear.(Snip)They based the plane's design on the Boeing Manta X-47C, which was part of a project abandoned by Nasa in 2000 for being too costly.

OP, you summed up all possible comments!
One can hope this story has no more likelihood of panning out than the typical Popular Mechanics-style glimpse into the future. Hope is all we have left now.

And I’m sure it will be solar-powered, because China is committed to being carbon neutral in the year 2525, if man is still alive….

I knew the Chinese couldn't have developed hypersonic anything unless they stole the tech from us.

Engines are one thing, the avionics required for that type of aircraft are entirely another. The copycat Chinese don't have the wherewithal for that type of machine.

It delivers the passengers using the SPecial Landing Aerial Transfer system.
It has an unfortunate acronym.

Full court press on to show the good ole USA is falling behind technologically. Either that, or the military industry is doing a full court press for more government dollars.

Who would need to get anywhere that fast? Have they experimented with dogs or chimps, or just with humans?

I suspect a lot of their scientists have been educated in the United States. All while we're denying students the opportunity to take advanced math because it's "unfair" to certain people.

Musk will beat them with a passenger rocket, Once he gets the Starship engines working to spec, Elon seriously proposed this idea and practically speaking it should work. IF it can work in the near future or make economic sense, is another issue.

And the cost to transport those ten people will be millions.
The French and Brits built Concorde, and could cruise....where people didn't mind the sonic boom, at well above 2 times the speed of sound. It worked. It was commercially a modest success.....but too expensive for most people, and if you could get across the pond in 8 or 9 hours for $800 or $4,000 for 3 hours.....most people just didn't really care about saving that time that much. It was mostly flown by people who had a company willing to waste money on them, or a few that did it just because they wanted to say that they had "flown supersonic" and could afford it.
And the same will be true for this contraption, if it ever reaches any sort of actual fuition. The ChiComs blow a lot of smoke on stuff like this. As long as the ChiComs can hold a gun on companies and take their money to pay for techno geegaws like this...they can play these silly games. But it will never be affordable if it has to pay it's own bills rather than have stolen ChiCom money shoveled at it for use as a political prop.
Take as an example....the Soviet Tu-144, "Concorde-ski".....one of which spectacularly and very publicly broke in half during a demonstration at the Paris Air Show. I saw one in a "museum" (weedy field with aircraft, some with placards) outside of Moscow a number of years ago, and I flew in several different other Tupelov airliners....which were noisy, cramped, fuel hogs with flimsy, crummy feeling soviet interiors.
The same Tu-154 made the flight from Moscow to Yerevan for many years, and it had a fuel tank that leaked all the time, a wet stain of fuel sliding back from a crack in the top surface. It had been "patched" with some kind of glop....smeared on roughly on the top of the wing...and still leaked fuel. We never blew up, and they never fixed it properly in the five years that I repeatedly took that flight. Always the same tired old soviet beater, always leaking fuel, uncomfortable seats, flimsy seatback trays, crummy soviet style Aeroflot food and LOUD.
I wouldn't even consider riding in this ChiCom death trap if it was free.

In other words, they stole the technology from the United States. If China and Russia couldn't steal our technology they would just be second world countries.

What are we waiting for?! Get Elon Musk working on the U.S. version without delay.
He said he invented his "Hyperloop." For him a 12,000 mph hypersonic plane should be child's play, and as usual, at half the normal costs.

But in being transported halfway around the world in one hour, the passengers are guaranteed to experience an absolutely devastating JET LAG that will reduce them to zombies for all professional or social activities.

Boeing just gave them the plans. It's cheap when you don't have to do the research.
That said, cheap things tend to fail, unexpectedly...

12,000 mph in Chinese junk? Not me!

If it could instantly go 12000mph then yes it could go halfway around the world in an hour. Climbing to a working altitude and accelerating to that speed would probably take and hour then another hour to slow down and descend. Then the passengers would have to sit on it for an hour or two for it to cool down enough for a ground crew to get within 100ft. It would be easier to take suborbital rocket if you were in that big of a hurry, and willing to tolerate a few g's of acceleration and deceleration. IOW, it ain't gonna happen in the next 20yr using conventional technology

The only reasons to build an aircraft that flys this fast is for military and or spying reasons.
Any aircraft that flys at these speeds would have to cool down on a runway for several hours before the passengers could deplane. A plane this fast would not be maneuverable.
The SR71 was originally designed to be an interceptor. At the speeds that it flew, it couldn't launch weapons. I can see one armed with an energy weapon to intercept incoming ballistic missiles.

I guess that now that the USA has off-shored all manufacturing to China and China has stolen most of the world's technology secrets, the USA has to abandon high tech development and China can afford to finish the concepts they stole. What good friends we have.

Perhaps so, but the USA is dismantling White supremacy, elevating every other ethnic group for the accomplishment of not being white, and celebrating every sexual perversion imaginable, all the while flooding the nation with poor people who consume our tax money and printing money to pay for it all.
