Chicago — Former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett was convicted on five counts Thursday evening on charges he orchestrated a fake hate crime against himself nearly three years ago, while jurors acquitted him of one other count. A jury of six men and six women deliberated more than nine hours over two days before finding Smollett guilty of five of six counts of disorderly conduct, accusing the actor of staging a fake racist and homophobic attack against himself in January 2019, and then lying to police about it, in a bid for publicity. Jurors found him not guilty of the sixth count of disorderly conduct.

Good. Prosecutors in woke cities have to worry that a woke member of the jury may hang the jury irrespective of overwhelming evidence of guilt.

It seemed to me....and I didn't care enough to follow closely, that his testimony was an unmitigated disaster, likely to turn most normal people's stomachs, while showing clearly what an arrogant liar he is. Richly deserved. All the lefty power players were desperate to cover up his lies, which were obvious to everyone even before the prosecution built and air tight case. I hope he spends some time in prison learning a bit of humility.

I'd image that his estimated worth of $500,000 has dropped by a couple hundred grand in legal fees. If the city comes after him for the $300,000 spent in the investigation, he will pretty much be broke. I doubt he will get any prison time, but that would just be icing on the cake. At least Joe Exotic was interesting, Jussie is just a pathetic narcissist who will hopefully soon be forgotten.

Punishment for this is futile since he is delusional and unremorseful. I would like to anyone to explain the state of mind of Smollett or the many other minorities who stage fake racist graphitti and noose hoaxes. Do they think this is somehow going to shame "others" or is it deeper? People who commit suicide often leave notes suggesting that their death will somehow get back at those who drove them to it. Are these hoaxes really a form of mock suicide to get back at "them"?

At least two people were killed Friday night when a reported tornado ripped through an Arkansas nursing home, and emergency crews in southern Illinois were also responding to reports of injuries at an Amazon warehouse after a roof collapsed amid storms there. Craighead County Judge Marvin Day told The Associated Press that a tornado struck the Monette Manor nursing home at about 8:15 p.m., trapping 20 people inside as the building collapsed. About 90 minutes later the building had been cleared and everyone initially believed to have been inside had been accounted for, but Day said crews still must search the debris for possible additional victims.

Results in the CNBC All-America Economic survey imply potentially large Democratic losses in the November election. Biden’s overall approval rating stabilized at a low level of 41%, about the same level as former President Donald Trump’s, compared to 50% who disapprove. But Biden’s approval rating on handling the economy and dealing with the coronavirus both declined

We have noted the rapid decline of the Democrats’ popularity among Latinos. A group (if it makes sense to refer to such a diverse collection of voters as such) that has strongly supported Democrats until recently now is evenly split in its backing of the two parties, according to recent polls. Ruy Teixeira argues that the news on Latino voters is even worse than now perceived. It’s noteworthy that Teixeira says this. In 2004, he, along with John Judis, wrote The Emerging Democratic Majority. They predicted that the rise of America’s Latino population would confer clear majority status on Democrats in the coming decades.

The US Supreme Court handed down a long-anticipated decision called Whole Woman’s Health vs. Jackson this morning. By way of background, on September 1, S.B. 8, the so-called “heartbeat bill” went into effect in Texas. The law had some unique features. First and foremost, it outlawed abortion after the point of a detectable fetal heartbeat. This was a clear challenge to the whole inhumane sham structure of abortion jurisprudence brought into existence by Roe vs. Wade. However, the most interesting feature was creating a private right to action to enforce the law. That means anyone can bring a lawsuit against anyone or any entity

The office’s most recent analysis finds that if major provisions in BBB were not embedded with sunset clauses and were made permanent, which Republicans argue is the Democrats’ hidden intention, the bill would add $2.8 trillion more to the national debt over the next decade than the original CBO score projected. In response to the new score, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham slammed what he said were misleading tactics

President Joe Biden tried to preempt more bad news on inflation Thursday as analysts are watching the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), scheduled for Friday. “Tomorrow, we will get a report on consumer prices that experts expect to be elevated again,” Biden acknowledged in a statement about the economy. Economists are estimating consumer costs are expected to rise 0.7 percent from the previous month and hit a 6.7 percent jump from last year. That would be higher than the jump in October, which hit a record high of 6.2 percent, the highest jump since 1990. Biden’s statement argued that the information

A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that former President Donald Trump cannot prevent the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack from getting hundreds of documents created when he was in the White House. Trump's lawyers will most likely now file an emergency appeal with the Supreme Court in an effort to block the release. They will have 14 days to file the appeal. Lawyers for the House said the committee needs the records "to complete a thorough investigation into how the actions of the former president, his advisers, and other government officials may have contributed to the attack on Congress to impede the peaceful transfer of presidential power."

The Democrat president on Wednesday ordered federal agencies to purchase electric vehicles, harness wind, solar, and nuclear energy to power facilities, and to use sustainable building materials. The goal is for the federal government to stop adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by 2050. In the next decade, Biden wants the government to cease purchasing electricity produced from sources that emit carbon dioxide. By 2035, the administration wants all new federal cars and truck purchases to be zero-emissions. Right now, only about 1.5% of the government fleet is electric vehicles.
