GREELEY, Colo. — A Walmart store in Colorado was evacuated after a shoplifter deployed bear spray against several employees, police said Sunday. Officers responded to the Greeley Wal-Mart Sunday afternoon after receiving multiple reports about bear spray being deployed. Workers had tried to detain a male shoplifter but he allegedly assaulted them, spayed them with the bear spray and then fled in a vehicle prior to the arrival of police. Emergency crews treated at least five people for exposure to bear spray, which can painfully irritate a person’s eyes, skin and lungs. The store was evacuated as a safety precaution

Comments:

Deploying bear spray seems to be a new tactic, as similar events happened in CA recently. Maybe shoppers should start carrying bear spray as well.

How is this not terrorism? Or does that only apply to some people. OP: some people are prepared when they go into Walmart or a big box store.

Was the shoplifter GREY, green, or polka-dotted? AP predictably omits that information. Their journalistic motto: "Only the news that WE choose to reveal."

Yes, release the video. Don't you want the perp identified, arrested, and charged? What better way than release the video. Why treat common criminals with such seemingly respect.

Here's a philosophical question. At what point should a bystander, witnessing the attack on store employees (also on any nearby customers), resort to something more permanent than bear spray, and end the attack immediately? The brazenness of criminals running riot in retail businesses, stealing whatever they can get their paws on, needs to end, or else there won't be anymore retail businesses. The criminals will have run them off. Then what are we left with? A state of nature. In such an environment practically everyone will have to be armed. Or else just lock up the damn criminals. Is that too bold a concept?

If he wasn't a White Supremacist he only had a 50-50 chance of pointing the spray in the right direction. I hope he doesn't try it again. Do you feel lucky, punk?

Hundreds of highly distinguished science and math professors have signed an open letter expressing "urgent concern" over California’s efforts to reform mathematics education in the name of social justice. The letter, signed by 597 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals, said the California Department of Education’s (CDE) proposed new mathematics framework will aim to reduce achievement gaps by limiting the availability of advanced mathematical courses to middle schoolers and beginning high schoolers, making it more challenging for students to succeed in STEM at college. As Democrats seek to reach out to Latino voters in a more gender-neutral way, they’ve increasingly begun using the word Latinx, a term that first began to get traction among academics and activists on the left. But that very effort could be counterproductive in courting those of Latin American descent, according to a new nationwide poll of Hispanic voters. Only 2 percent of those polled refer to themselves as Latinx, while 68 percent call themselves “Hispanic” and 21 percent favored “Latino” or “Latina” to describe their ethnic background, according to the survey from Bendixen & Amandi International, a top Democratic

The U.S. is taking recent signaling from the Kremlin very seriously, and does not consider the matter a bluff, a senior U.S. defense official told Fox News. Russia already has about 100,000 troops stationed along its border with Ukraine, the defense official said. Not all relationships end in “happily ever after,” and birds are no exception. While more than 90 percent of bird species form monogamous couples, many of these will end in divorce. The reasons for splitting up are as varied in birds as they are in humans, and often revolve around things like poor compatibility or slacking off by one partner. However, new research has found a surprising cause of divorce: climate change. Like many seabirds, black-browed albatrosses form monogamous pairs that can last for the entirety of their 70-year lifespans. However, just under 4 percent of these couples will separate
