As Ed has already pointed out this morning, you can’t always tell from oral arguments what Supreme Court Justices are thinking, much less where they will land in a final decision. But that doesn’t stop media outlets of all stripes from doing their best to read the room. And there seems to be general agreement from those who listened to the arguments this morning that there’s not a lot of good news here for abortion supporters. First up is Nina Totenberg at NPR: The right to an abortion in the United States appeared to be on shaky ground as a divided Supreme Court

Abortion is the left’s most sacred sacrament. It defines who they are. They ultimately want the right to decide who lives and who dies. If we keep going down this road our future is bleak because they will have legislated God out of every aspect of society. We do not want to live in that world. I pray that the decision comes down on the side of life because humans do not have the authority to make these decisions. 66M innocent babies have been sacrificed on the Democrat’s altar of abortion. Enough. Could this decision be the catalyst for restoring our nation? I certainly hope so. No nation can commit such genocide and expect to be blessed by God. I pray for this country. We need to get this right.

I, frankly don't think so. It will be too wrenching and unsettling. The SCOTUS does not like that. IMO, CJ Roberts will go for a middle of the road solution that loosens the absolute stranglehold that Roe has enjoyed over State laws. Giving them more 'wiggle room' to test the waters.

It is about time some restraints were put on abortion. At the very least, when you pass the point when the fetus (AKA, baby) can survive outside the womb, you have crossed the line from abortion to murder. The attempts in recent years to include killing a baby several days after birth as abortion are truly deplorable.

It should not be up to the Courts (or the government) to decide what constitutes a viable pregnancy. They are not qualified to judge that. Their job is to rule on the constitutionality of the law. There is not nor has there ever been a constitutional right to get an abortion. That is the real point. Let the people rule on this in each State.

Radical lefty women are already wringing their hands in horror. Sheila Jackson Lee just gave another one of her heart-wrenching slavery speeches. Between abortion and the streets of our inner cities one would think that they want to be free to kill their young in very large numbers. Doing it while they are babies does save ammunition but it's still just as immoral and wrong.

As one who thinks Marbury v Madison should be reversed first: this should not be the court's business. SCOTUS has a legitimate role as the final court of appeal - IN INDIVIDUAL CASES. But legislation (which overturning existing law) is the job of the Federal (God help us) and state legislatures. Period. Courts should properly remand Constitutional issues back to the appropriate legislatures with recommendations to reconsider, detailing the court's concerns. Those legislatures should be given a time limit to change the law - or the law will STAND and the court must rule accordingly. (No filibustering.) This, of course, will require a Constitutional amendment via the "normal" process or a Convention of States. Hamilton was right: the judicial oligarchy must be curtailed.

For all intents and purposes, this won't outlaw abortion in the nation. Overturning Roe will toss it back into the laps of the 50 states, which is where it should have stayed in the first place back in the day. But there are too many conservative states out there that will immediately outlaw abortion in their individual state, and that is what is going to cause the liberal protests and meltdowns. Nothing like forcing people to grow up and take personal responsibility for their own behavior, right?

Senate passes funding bill despite vaccine

Senate lawmakers voted Thursday night to approve a bill that funds the government through Feb. 18, avoiding a government shutdown with roughly 24 hours to spare despite a partisan clash regarding President Biden's federal vaccine mandate. The Senate voted 69-28 in favor of the continuing resolution, which approves government funding at the prior year’s levels until a new bipartisan agreement is reached. The resolution includes $7 billion in new funding to support Afghan refugees. The bill now proceeds to Biden’s desk for final approval.

Last week Politico published a story about the moderate Democratic group Third Way, specifically their efforts to figure out what went wrong for Dems in Virginia’s most recent election. An outlier? Perhaps, as Republican-leaning Trafalgar has been one of the tougher polling series for Joe Biden ever since his bug-out from Afghanistan. On the other hand, this is still the worst result yet from this series, and that direction mirrors most of the rest of the polling over the last three-plus months. In yesterday’s results, Biden hit 36% job approval and still appears to be searching for a floor. More problematic is that most voters who don’t approve are passionate about it; Biden gets a disapproval rating of 59%, with 52.2% strongly disapproving. Biden doesn’t inspire much middle ground

There are self-owns and then there are glorious self-owns, and the cast and crew in the Biden administration have gotten unquestionably good at committing the “glorious” varieties of such things over the last 11 months. For instance, there was the one over the summer where the White House Twitter account actually bragged about the price of BBQs going down a whole 16 cents from the year prior. For those who missed it, take a look: I mean assuming it was even true, is that something anyone would want to strut on social media over? New Texas law limiting abortion takes

A new law limiting access to abortion pills in Texas went into effect on Thursday, worrying pro-choice supporters who fear the law will further restrict abortion access in an already restrictive state. SB4 bans abortion providers from providing a pill to terminate a pregnancy after 49 days, and also does not allow for the drugs to be shipped by mail, meaning women can't order the pills from across state lines. The law would have a big effect, considering more than a third of women in 2017 used abortion pills, according to the Guttmacher Institute. The bill, which had more than a dozen sponsors, was passed on a 82-41 vote in the Senate.

The COVIDians are positively turgid over the idea of more mandates, more lockdowns, more masks, and more viro-fascism.
