A Nordstrom store in a mall in Los Angeles County was robbed Wednesday evening by thieves who used a chemical spray on a security guard to get inside the building. The store, which is located at the Westfield Topanga & The Village shopping mall in Canoga Park, was hit by a group of thieves shortly before 7 p.m. local time as some shoppers were still inside the store, according to KABC-TV. Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) told KTLA-TV that one of the thieves pushed and sprayed a security guard at the store with "some

Comments:

The spray apparently does not cause permanent harm but is a nasty and frightening experience for the employees. Will the perps be prosecuted?

This is no longer “peaceful” looting. It is assault and battery approaching felony status. Prosecute accordingly!

Pure capsicum is 16,000,000 Scoville heat units. Personal defense and bear spray are loaded with capsicum, and they're quite effective. At least some law enforcement personnel have been pepper sprayed during training because the spray's effects are short term, if excruciating to the eyes and sinuses. If a criminal who comes into a store to commit smash and grab robbery uses pepper spray on (real) customers and employees, he deserves something worse in return than "hot sauce" in the eyes.

Too bad they can't install sprayers that security can activate as the looters are running out of the store. It can coat them with a neon color permanent dye, skin, clothing, and stolen merchandise. The dye will ID the perps, ruin what they stole, and stain the interior and exterior of the get away cars.

FWIW, per Wikipedia: Topanga Canyon - 84.5% non-Hispanic white, 1.4% black. The perps no doubt came in from out of town, but nowhere is safe anymore.

It's looting season in California! Fun, fun, fun. If you don't like it, perhaps a change in leadership is in order. Or if you love you politicians -- then just sit back and watch your stores all close and leaving no shopping choices. I chose to live far away many years ago after being born in California. Washed my hands of it, and turned down several really interesting job opportunities in historic aerospace companies. Just won't live in that place any more.

At some point in American history, our courts developed a doctrine of self protection and protection of property that differs for the home and for your business. There is no rational explanation for this very dated thinking. It's time for the States to start pass Shopkeeper Protection Acts that open the doors to deadly force in the protection of property during periods of general lawlessness like mob actions and mob looting.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a state of emergency order on Friday in response to the identification of the COVID-19 omicron variant. The emergency order is intended to increase hospital capacity in New York and will last until at least Jan. 15, when it will be reassessed. Democrats have long wanted the government to parent or co-parent your children, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that President Joe Biden said the quiet part out loud Monday night. Is the administration upset that you might be spending too much time with your family? The statement is also rather vague. The “nearly 2 million” number, I assume, represents the 1.8 million-woman reduction in our labor force during the COVID-19 pandemic. But it’s untrue to claim this loss is only due to women leaving work to care for a family member. There are myriad reasons why the pandemic and government-induced shutdowns could have diminished the female workforce.

Then we reported on Dr. Anthony Fauci claiming they needed more time and information to decide on whether they needed to be talking about travel bans, that they wouldn’t be implementing a travel ban yet.

In early August Gideon Schreiber and a team of virologists at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel began playing around with the spike protein of the Sars-CoV-2 virus–the protein that allows the virus to enter our cells–to see if they could predict future mutations that could yield dangerous new variants of Covid-19. At the time, Schreiber noted with concern that there were a variety of ways in which the spike protein could evolve. If all of these mutations occurred at once, it could yield a variant that was both extremely transmissible and potentially capable of evading some of the body’s immune defences
