The media simply don’t find the story that interesting, because it checks none of their narrative boxes. About 18 million barrels of that oil have been earmarked for sale by Congress. The other 32 million barrels will go to the American consumer. Since the oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is what’s known as “sour” crude — oil with large levels of sulfur that makes it more expensive to refine — it’s far more attractive to foreign buyers like China because it’s relatively inexpensive compared to the “sweet” crude that’s easier to turn into gasoline at the refinery.

The New York City Council will vote on December 9 on a law to allow green-card holders and residents with work permits to vote in municipal elections.
Around 808,000 New York City residents who have work permits or are lawful permanent residents would be eligible to vote under the legislation, which has the support of 34 of 51 council members, a veto-proof majority.
