Mike Pence reportedly set to speak in
New Hampshire, fueling potential presidential run

Former Vice President Mike Pence will reportedly travel in December to New Hampshire, the state that typically holds the first primary election in the country during the presidential race. Pence will headline a fundraiser for New Hampshire Senate Republicans on Dec. 8 in Manchester, Fox News reported on Sunday. He’s also expected to appear at another event in the state — his second trip to the Granite State this year. The former vice president spoke at a Hillsborough County Republican Lincoln-Reagan Day dinner in June, in a speech that was interrupted by numerous standing ovations.

Pence isn't a bad guy and he is right of center. He is a career politician who goes along. He's not presidential material, but Republicans should work to keep him in the party. Pence hopes to amass a big enough cash war chest to be considered a force to be reckoned with in the Republican Party, even if his future as a presidential aspirant looks dim to nil. A cleverer politician would have spoken strong words about the need to audit the suspicious swing-state, big city votes before being forced--reluctantly--to follow through with his constitutional duty on January 6th. Instead, he turned his back on President Trump in Trump's moment of need--a foolish and cowardly choice. Send him on the rest home circuit to beg for applause: "Please clap."

I love PDT, best president of my lifetime. But I fault him for making a public issue of the January 6 tally, thereby putting an onus on Pence and making the VP the target of undeserved opprobrium. Had PDT talked this out with Mike as the date approached, all the bitterness displayed on this thread and elsewhere would have been avoided.

The Vice-President’s role in the process undergoing on January 6 is quite clear. Under our constitution there is absolutely not one thing Pence could have done to halt the recording of the certified vote tallies sent by the 50 states. No one damning Pence here has ever produced Constitutional evidence that he could have done anything other than what he did. President Trump is 100% wrong to say otherwise and he should stop doing so. He sounds idiotic. Several Republican Senators were on board to challenge several of the certifications but that plan was derailed by the morons who broke into the capitol. As to Pence exploring a run, forget about it. It’s time for the baby boomers to give it up. Of course if Donald Trump chooses to run in 2024 he has my support.

I don't know...but he strikes me as a good man in the same sense as the town leaders in "High Noon" who all had 'reasons' why they couldn't or wouldn't help Gary Cooper fight the gang all alone while they hid with the womenfolk. #59, returning any ONE of their several dual slates of electors BACK to the State for recertification would have bought a few days to marshall forces and gain momentum. This has been said multiple times by multiple posters here. So, being wrong, will you now apologize to the board?

#79, # 59 owes no one any apology. Does anyone here actually believe that a single state would have reversed its certification? And your speculation ought not be assigned the weight of fact. In this matter peoples' imaginations seem to be getting the better of them.

More than one state sent dual electors. Sending one back would have stopped the process in til such a time as that slate of electors was sent back. IRREFUTABLE. Ergo, 59 owes an apology. Seems to me that YOU are the one presuming action or inaction but this post speaks to what MAY have been done; VP does not certify a slate, it is returned to the State and then……but thanks to MP, we’ll never know the ‘then”. One last time: The Polity is the PEOPLE, not the REPRESENTATIVES. Process is not People. I no longer respect a result just cuz the ‘process’ was observed. All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for Mike Pence to do nothing. Evil triumphed.

While Republicans rushed to help Biden pass his infrastructure bill, the rest of the president’s agenda remains in limbo. Nancy Pelosi forced the “Build Back Better” bill through the House last week, but it is essentially dead on arrival in the Senate. That didn’t stop Democrats from celebrating as if they’d just liberated Europe, but I digress. The problem for the White House remains. How do they get their massive spending bill through moderate holdouts like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema? President Biden said the Department of Energy will release 50 million barrels of oil held in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, as Americans pay more for gas now than they have in years.China, India, Japan the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom will likewise tap their reserves in a coordinated effort to drive down prices.Of the 50 million barrels, 32 million will be released but eventually returned to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in the next few years, the White House said. The remaining 18 million barrels are part of a sale that Congress has already authorized; the White House said it was accelerating the release of that sale.

The trial of the three men accused of slaying Ahmaud Arbery has Black Americans walking on pins and needles once again. Whatever the jury decides, I’m afraid, will fail to address a damming question that the tragic incident symbolizes: How can Black people ever be secure in America? Executed by three strangers while jogging in a white neighborhood, Arbery’s killing reflects the mindset of domination in the culture of white supremacy: the belief that any random white person has the right to accost and detain a Black person with impunity. Authorities are ready to accept their claims of righteous endangerment–even

Viewing America from outside the country adds a semi-neutral perspective on news and events. I’ve been told there’s value in hearing an outside viewpoint about people more intimately tied to the emotional maelstrom of unfolding events. Conversely, I find it helpful to receive information from people in the know, which adds to the volume and depth of my research. When it comes to Kamala Harris’s floundering, I’ve been hearing shocking gossip. I received this gossip directly from a Washington insider, It will be difficult to confirm until it happens, if it happens.

San Francisco Bay was hit by a third day of shocking looting, with a gang of thieves smashing glass cases at a jewelry store and emptying them as staff screamed in terror. The latest incident happened at a Sam's Jewelers store at the Southland Mall in Hayward around 5:30pm PST Sunday evening, and was caught on camera. Robbers—said to have been part of a gang of around 40 to 50 teens who entered the mall—wielded hammers to smash display cases at Sam's, before making off with goods. Dramatic footage shot from a nearby store showed shop workers screaming with fear as the disturbing scene unfolded.

A hypersonic weapon test carried out by China in July featured a missile fired at five times the speed of sound - a technological feat which no other country has demonstrated, according to US intelligence. The hypersonic glide vehicle - a spacecraft with the ability to carry a nuclear warhead - fired a missile mid-flight over the South China Sea, catching Pentagon scientists unawares.Experts at Darpa - the Pentagon's advanced research agency - are apparently still baffled at how China was able to defy the constraints of physics to fire a weapon from the vehicle travelling at hypersonic speed, the Financial Times reports.

Tucker Carlson scored the first interview with Kyle Rittenhouse and I highly recommend it. Before the trial, Rittenhouse was a human Rorschach test: We all saw what we wanted to see. Tucker’s interview revealed a real person: articulate, intelligent, principled, nuanced in his opinions, and even-tempered. (snip) The real young man is...well, real. First, he speaks fluently, without the “like” and “you know” fillers that most young people use. I thought that his smooth, intelligent speech on the witness stand was because he was well-rehearsed (which is what all lawyers should do to prepare their clients for their testimony). It seems, though, that Rittenhouse really just speaks well.
