A federal appeals court granted a hold sought by former President Donald Trump to block the National Archives from handing over documents to the Jan. 6 House committee. The order is a victory for Trump, who sued the House and the National Archives and claimed executive privilege over more than 700 records related to the Capitol riot.

Comments:

Not much else here yet. This reverses a puke Obama judge that dismissed Trump's suit in less that two hours. I am sure he was super thorough in his jurisprudence....

A big win for trump and future republican presidents. Demonrats have always been granted executive privilege with little opposition.

Biden needs to be careful with the precedent he is about to start. Take away Trump's privilege today, the next president will release all of the privileged Obama administration stuff and Biden administration stuff because there could be "vital information " in them. Can't wait to hear them cry executive privilege and be told, sorry, that ended when you left office.

The three Appeals Court Judges who will hear Trump’s appeal are all liberal Democrats appointed by either Obama or Clinton. So in this politically charged case Trump’s chance of getting a favorable decision from those Judges is about zero. This matter is bound to end up in the Supreme Court.

The District Court Judge who heard the request for injunction in the Federal District Court below, said in her ruling, "Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President." What compelling logic and legal analysis. /s

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel emailed an apology Monday evening to the GOP's 168 committee members, acknowledging she could have done a better job communicating a new initiative to recruit gay voters that upset some in the party's Christian evangelical base. McDaniel's email was sent a few hours after she tried to quell a rebellion inside her ranks, holding a conference call with RNC members that delivered talking points supporting the new GOP Pride coalition but refusing to take questions. She blamed the risk that news media members may have dialed into the call for skipping a Q&A.

Key vote Sen. Joe Manchin came out against a proposal within President Joe Biden's Build Back Better agenda to fund an additional $4,500 tax credit for those who buy a union-built, made-in-America electric vehicle. The West Virginia Democrat, who has been almost single-handedly responsible for cutting down the package's overall target price to $1.85 trillion, called the measure "wrong" Thursday and indicated he's working to get it removed.

The White House on Wednesday was forced to contend with a new report showing a jump in inflation on a range of consumer goods used by ordinary Americans – while Sen. Joe Manchin warned inflation was 'getting worse' at a time when President Joe Biden needs his vote on a key social spending bill. Biden said in a statement Wednesday morning that 'inflation hurts' as he blamed a sharp increase in October compared to last year on an increase in the cost of energy.

America’s employers accelerated their hiring last month, adding a solid 531,000 jobs, the most since July and a sign that the recovery from the pandemic recession is overcoming a virus-induced slowdown. Friday’s report from the Labor Department also showed that the unemployment rate fell to 4.6% last month from 4.8% in September. That is a comparatively low level though still well above the pre-pandemic jobless rate of 3.5%. And the job gains in August and September weren’t as weak as initially reported: The government increased its estimate of hiring for those two months by a hefty combined 235,000 jobs.  CORRECTION*

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm laughed off the notion of encouraging more domestic oil production to blunt high gasoline prices and said matters are exclusively in OPEC's hands. "That is hilarious," Granholm responded while laughing to Bloomberg Surveillance host Tom Keene's question about the "Granholm plan" to increase oil production in America. "Would that I had the magic wand on this," Granholm said. "As you know, of course, oil is a global market. It is controlled by a cartel. That cartel is called OPEC."

The Democrats’ $1.75 trillion social spending bill would massively increase fines imposed on employers for occupational hazards. President Biden’s vaccine mandate will be enforced through such penalties. Businesses with over 100 employees must ensure by Jan. 4 that their workers are either fully vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing, according to the mandate, which was finalized Thursday. Fines, enforced through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), could be as high as $14,000 per violation.

With the Biden administration facing a growing wave of lawsuits to stop the president’s vaccine mandate on companies, an Indiana businessman-turned-senator believes he has the quickest way to kill it. Sen. Mike Braun, backed by most GOP senators, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, is hopeful of nixing the mandate through the arcane but effective Congressional Review Act. It would force a vote in both Houses just before Christmas and when 93,000 firms could be firing unvaccinated workers.

On the surface, that doesn’t make sense, since nearly 80 percent of eligible Coloradans have received at least one vaccine dose, suggesting the vaccines are not working as well as they should or as advertised
