New York—Shoppers are already taking a hit at the grocery store. Soon, even their cheapest meat options will get more expensive. Tyson Foods (TSN), Conagra (CAG) and Kraft Heinz (KHC) have notified their retail customers in recent weeks that they will raise prices in January for some frozen and refrigerated meats. Products that will see increases include Ball Park hot dogs and burgers, State Fair corn dogs, Jimmy Dean frozen breakfast, Hillshire Farm sausage and lunch meat, and Hebrew National and Oscar Mayer hot dogs, according to supplier letters to wholesale customers viewed by CNN Business. "All the packaged meat suppliers are coming to the price increase party,"

Comments:

Janet and Jerome say this is not a problem because they do not buy low-end meat products. Might we consider instead a plate of mealworms or crickets, which have a nutty flavor all their own? People on welfare can continue to buy whatever they please, as their benefits keep increasing thanks to the GOP.

There are some elites who would love to push crickets and mealworms on the little people. But, seriously, when my folks were going through a tough time mom could always fall back on hot dogs, burgers, chicken and rice, tuna, lunchmeat and the like. And my grandmother lived through the depression so we always had a basement full of canned fruit, veggies, jam and the like. People don't do that anymore. I would not want to be feeding a family today. Two adults and three kids would wipe out your grocery budget in two days. MSNBC - it's really a good thing but you are to stupid to realize it, FJB administration - transitory problem so no need to worry, we don't want you to drive anyway so just deal with gas prices, and it's Trump's fault anyway. Saw hot dogs for almost $6 an 8 pack. FJB

President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that most Americans cannot understand the problems faced by the United States' supply chains, adding that 'not a lot of people' have a clear grasp of the networks and their implications. Speaking at the port of Baltimore, where he touted his $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill—which was passed by Congress on Friday, and which he plans to sign into law on Monday—Biden said that investing in resiliency was essential. 'You hear a lot about the supply chains in the news, but frankly, not a lot of people have a clear understanding, whether they have a Ph.D. or they didn't go to school,

The tent city outside the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus just off the 405 Freeway resembled more a military encampment than a makeshift shantytown thrown up by vagrants. The tents were lined up with a soldierly precision, and each sported a prominent American flag. The impressive display was a mixture of pride and tragedy. Known as “Veterans Row,” the site was home to dozens of people who served in the U.S. military in every conflict from Vietnam to Afghanistan and now, out of uniform, are living on the streets of the country they once defended.(Snip)Although exact numbers are difficult to track, most officials say approximately 40,000

Members of Congress who die in office customarily have a year’s salary, currently $174,000, as a payout to their survivors. Families of U.S. service members who die on active duty get a $100,000 death gratuity. Japanese Americans, forced out of their homes and into internment camps for more than two years during World War II, collected $20,000 payments four decades later. That’s worth about $46,000 in today’s dollars. Lawmakers and legal experts are looking at those kinds of payments as the Biden administration considers cutting $450,000 checks—nearly 10 times the inflation-adjusted rate paid to the internees—to compensate illegal immigrants who say they suffered emotional trauma

The U.S. is one of the few countries still recommending masks in schools as most nations let kids attend classes without face coverings. Although states are allowed to set their own rules, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests universal indoor masking for all students above age two regardless of vaccination status. In fact, 68.2 percent of the 500 of the largest school districts in America still require masks, according to data analytics firm Burbio. But there are only six other nations in the Western world that require or strongly advise kids to cover their noses and mouths. Meanwhile, more than a dozen other countries, including the UK,

Researchers running a small number of Pfizer's original Covid vaccine trials may have skewed their findings, an investigation has warned. A US subcontractor paid to run an arm of the study has been accused of cutting corners, obscuring data and putting patients in harm's way. Brook Jackson, a former boss at Ventavia, said the firm did not always test patients with symptoms, which potentially masked how well the jab performed. She told a British Medical Journal probe that as well as 'falsifying' data, Ventavia hired underqualified staff as vaccinators and failed to follow-up on side effects. Washington—To enforce President Joe Biden’s forthcoming COVID-19 mandate, the U.S. Labor Department is going to need a lot of help. Its Occupational Safety and Health Administration doesn’t have nearly enough workplace safety inspectors to do the job. So the government will rely upon a corps of informers to identify violations of the order: Employees who will presumably be concerned enough to turn in their own employers if their co-workers go unvaccinated or fail to undergo weekly tests to show they’re virus-free. What’s not known is just how many employees will be willing to accept some risk to themselves—or their job security—for blowing the whistle

As Vermont reports higher than ever COVID-19 case rates, state health officials have been trying to understand why. How can a state that did so well during the first part of the pandemic — even garnering national recognition — be doing so much worse now? "There is not one simple answer," said Vermont Health Commissioner Dr. Mark Levine during a news conference Tuesday. "But, there are clearly factors that have come together to create the situation that we're in now." Slowing the spread is critical right now to prevent Vermont's hospitals from being overwhelmed with people sick with the virus, Levine said.
