The mystery of the missing millions is
the only blemish on a strong U.S. jobs report

The U.S. jobs report for October hit all the right notes — except for one. The big disappointment? The number of people in the labor force barely grew, leaving the rate of participation at the lowest level since the early 1970s. Put another way, millions of people who had jobs before the pandemic still haven’t returned to work. And that doesn’t even take into account a few million more who likely would entered the labor force had there been no pandemic at all. The result: There’s not enough workers to fill a near-record number of open jobs. If the labor

Comments:

The numbers just don't jive. 500,000 new jobs in October but the number of people actually working doesn't budge. And millions of positions go begging for workers.

The local watering holes have quite a "clientele" base during the afternoon reduced prices. Back at it again the next day. Yes, I talk to the owner on occasion that provides updates. Getting proper amount of staffing is the major concern. Close to 10% increase in prices on New Years Day. The owner should enact a "No Pajama Pants" during Happy Hour. It's turned into a dive.

Plus an influx of a million or so illegals, over and under the wire (I don't think we know the real #). Wondering too, how much has gov't employees numbers moved up or down? I mean before they hire 100K new agents to glean the last morsels of the ants while overlooking the ruling elites' grain bins.

Outside of the lower paying service jobs I suspect many companies used this opportunity to trim the deadweight from it's staffing model. Although I am retired I know a previous employer of mine did exactly that and is still looking for quality replacements.

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed new legislation that prohibits used car dealers from selling vehicles at retail without a working airbag across the state Sunday. Under this legislation, dealers must certify that the vehicle is equipped with an airbag, as well as an indicator light that shows the airbag is functioning. This bill is entitled “Anthony Amoros’ Law” after a young man from Rockland who died in a car crash after a car was sold to him without airbags. “Every New Yorker deserves to be safe on the road and behind the wheel,” Gov. Hochul said.

A year before the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans hold a clear lead on the congressional ballot as President Joe Biden's approval rating sinks to a new low of 38%. A USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, taken Wednesday through Friday, found that Biden's support cratered among the independent voters who delivered his margin of victory over President Donald Trump one year ago. Biden and his party are poised for a rebound, advocates argue, after the House passed a $1.2 trillion "hard" infrastructure bill late Friday, sending the signature measure to Biden's desk for his signature. An encouraging economic report released Friday

The Lincoln Project was seemingly on top of the world a year ago after creating a super PAC to take down President Donald Trump. The organization was flush with cash and made up of a who's who of disgruntled Republicans, including George Conway, husband to top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway. But those halcyon days may well be behind it with its latest incident backfiring — an embarrassing stunt with tiki torches aimed at painting newly elected Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin as a racist. It was a reminder of the multitude of issues the group has faced since rising to prominence.

NEW HOPE, Pa. — The Democrats of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, felt the red wave building over the summer when frustrated parents filled school board meetings to complain about masking requirements and an academic theory on systemic racism that wasn't even taught in local schools. They realized the wave was growing when such concerns, fueled by misleading reports on conservative media, began showing up in unrelated elections for judges, sheriff and even the county recorder of deeds. And so they were not surprised — but devastated all the same — when Democrats all across this key county northeast of Philadelphia were wiped out in

Two hyenas at the Denver Zoo have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the first case in the animal worldwide. The hyenas were tested after several lions at the zoo became sick, according to The Associated Press. The hyena samples first tested positive at a Colorado State University lab and were then confirmed by the national lab. "Hyenas are famously tough, resilient animals that are known to be highly tolerant to anthrax, rabies and distemper," the Denver Zoo said in a statement, according to the AP. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi moved to save face with a procedural vote on Democrats' reconciliation bill Friday after an effort to pass it stalled yet again when a small group of moderates demanded the House wait for scores from the Congressional Budget Office. But that plan, which includes a vote on the infrastructure bill as well, may also backfire on top Democrats due to progressive opposition to passing infrastructure without reconciliation. Pelosi, D-Calif., and other top Democrats Thursday night and Friday morning had projected confidence that the House would pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the reconciliation bill Friday.

DENVER — Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a wealthy tech entrepreneur worth hundreds of millions of dollars, paid little or no federal income taxes in the nine years before the Democrat was elected governor, by taking advantage of loopholes that aren't available to most taxpayers, according to a ProPublica report published Thursday. Polis paid nothing in federal income taxes from 2013 to 2015 and paid an effective rate of 8.2% from 2010 to 2018, substantially lower than the 19% paid by a taxpayer who made $45,000 in 2018, the report found.
