Mandatory mask laws and rules have become a polarizing issue during the COVID-19 pandemic. Proponents argue that masks are necessary to stop the virus. But critics have cited human rights concerns as well as evidence showing that masks are ineffective in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Two Portland-area residents were arrested on Wednesday after they were attacked by the owner of a downtown Eugene store and captured the incident on camera. Ricki Collin, 34, and Amy Hall, 45, are facing third-degree assault charges, a felony, after the incident at Crumb Together on Oak Street.

Comments:

Why are maskless people prosecuted? I don't believe that masks will protect me so the law should be different for me? The store owner is the one who pulled out the baseball bat and tried to attack the woman, things didn't turn out her way and now they arrest the couple for attack! All they can do is arrest them for trespassing, but just as they said every media turn the story around and accused them, it's like we are back in the 30s again but this time not wearing masks is the main issue!

The couple staged this whole thing. The customer shoved the business owner first. The law doesn't allow bullying a shop owner.

Once upon a time a business owner had the right to refuse service. That right is now somewhat limited but 'not wearing a mask' is not protected by the law.

The whole thing was staged. Someone was filming as she was walking in the store, ten she shoves him. This could be a setup from the left. If it wasn't, he should have used the bat!

Portland and Eugene are the two bluest spots in Oregon that the rest of us in the red counties have to contend with. As long as they keep the ridiculous behavior in their own blue areas, they can do what they want. If the customers shoved the owner, they need to go to jail.

A local bakery store is not the place to have your personal Lexington. I don’t mask outdoors, and as another poster wrote; go somewhere else if a local business wants to enforce masking. I agree the whole charade about masking is stupid and un-scientific, but looking for trouble is not productive.

It's a setup. They are filming as they entered the store, and continued filming. The perpetrator pushed the owner first while her arms are spread out. ASSAULT. Assault plain and simple -PERIOD!

The first amendment trumps any BS "laws" that deny the freedom to associate with whomever you damned well please. The baker has the right not to take part in a gay wedding the Muslim photographer has the right not to be forced to shoot my bar mitzvah and she doesn't have to serve the unmasked. The unmasked woman refused to leave after appropriately being asked and as far as I'm concerned without knowledge of state laws the shop keeper had the right to throw her out. A violation of personal space was a highly benign first move. The bat, a potentially lethal response to a shove was a step too far a major escalation. But obviously the idiot was stupidly playing with fire rather than using it. Raising the stakes to life of death without being prepared to play at that level is simply insane, intended for theatrics but inviting death.

It seems bakeries are a target for protesting people looking to be offended then sue for damages. The customers must have known something about the bakery or owners to target them. Videoing before and during this is a big stinker if you ask me. I'm with other posters they refuse you service for not wearing a mask then leave it's that simple. In hellhole cities mandating masks you can bet the mask police are going to do their jobs if you don't comply Eugene is one of them. Let's go Brandon.

The customer pushed first, but the owner shouldn't have pulled the baseball bat if she was going to let it be taken away from her. Anyway, it was a funny fight. The guy filming couldn't even keep his camera straight. Pathetic! I'm glad I can't be associated with this younger generation.

In total agreement with Number 7. Just got back from extensive travel in OR and WA both East and west sides of states. The Portland/Eugene areas are useless and cannot be viewed as America. Sad reality. The Bakery had already gained a reputation for bullying non maskers. This couple went in to document it. “Amy” blew it by pushing back first but the speed with which the shopkeeper pulled out the Bat and threatened demonstrates how intense things are in OR cities. Listen to the whole clip. The young man requested getting the tape out to the sheriffs. It is a matter of city based countryside in both OR and WA. The western cities are dangerous. Police are hobbled by lefty politicians. Btw Seattle is an absolute pit but only Jason Rantz covers it . Squalor much like San Francisco . I will happily stay away from their businesses.

As 32 House and Senate Republicans helped breathe life into President Joe Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, some once opposed the prospect of spending $25 billion to build border wall in an effort to reduce illegal immigration to the United States. Last weekend, 13 House Republicans voted with Democrats to send a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill to Biden’s desk. In early August, 19 Senate Republicans did the same, helping pass the bill through the chamber to the House for approval. The bill includes $0 for construction of border wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, despite proclaiming to be a package of infrastructure projects and a record-high flow of illegal immigration to the nation.

Tacoma, Wash.—A metallurgist in Washington state pleaded guilty to fraud Monday after she spent decades faking the results of strength tests on steel that was being used to make U.S. Navy submarines. Elaine Marie Thomas, 67, of Auburn, Washington, was the director of metallurgy at a foundry in Tacoma that supplied steel castings used by Navy contractors Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding to make submarine hulls. From 1985 through 2017, Thomas falsified the results of strength and toughness tests for at least 240 productions of steel—about half the steel the foundry produced for the Navy, according to her plea agreement, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma.
