Elk Grove Village, Ill. - The mayor of Elk Grove Village is defying the governor’s mask mandate and said wearing a mask is optional in his village for municipal buildings and businesses.
Mayor Craig Johnson said he fully embraces the science and the science tells him it’s past due to lift that indoor mask policy. (Snip) “We are following the science. That’s our key,” he said. “And the science has said, according to the governor last spring, once you drop below 5%, he’d open up. Well today we are at 1.6-1.7%. Why aren’t we opening?”

The chairwoman of the Mankato, Minnesota, school board went viral earlier this week for a video in which she is seen telling parents who wish to speak that they are required to first announce their home address. The chairwoman, Jodi Sapp, is seen at an Oct. 18 meeting telling a man he will not be allowed to speak unless he announces his home address. The man first objects, citing security concerns, but ultimately agrees to the demand. The address cannot be heard in the video, but Sapp notably repeats the address to be sure that it is heard by the entire room.

Springfield, Ill. - The Illinois Senate voted Tuesday to repeal a decades-old law that requires a parent to be notified when a minor seeks an abortion, an effort by supporters to cement the state’s position as a liberal leader on abortion rights as other states impose greater restrictions on the procedure.(Snip)The Democratic-controlled Senate voted 32-22 to repeal the parental notification requirement, with four members of the majority party joining Republicans in opposition. Five other Democrats did not vote.
The proposal, which has the support of Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, now goes to the Democratic-controlled House, where its prospects remain uncertain.

City firms have been wrapped up in an equality row after it was revealed diversity proposals will allow companies to include transgender women in their gender roll calls.
Equality targets will require more than a thousand of Britain's biggest companies to close the gender pay gap.
But the proposals define a woman the same way as LGBTQ campaign group Stonewall rather than the way gender is usually recognised under UK law.
If they go ahead, companies can meet percentage targets by including transgender women as female in their self-reported data — despite them not necessarily facing the same discrimination relating to their sex.

Chicago - How could anyone tell if former Mayor Rahm Emanuel wasn't telling the whole truth during Wednesday's U.S. Senate hearing in advance of a confirmation vote on his pending appointment as America's ambassador to Japan?
Well, his lips were moving.(Snip) Take, for instance, Emanuel's answers during the nine-minute grilling Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) gave him about his involvement in efforts to cover-up video showing a Chicago police officer shooting Laquan McDonald with every bullet in his gun — 16 shots (Snip)The Rahm con job continues. Will senators fall for it like a rubber-stamp City Council? Do they even care?

At least two suburban county sheriffs say they will send their deputies to help the Chicago Police Department only if city officers are in distress or under duress.
So they say they will not respond if Chicago is short-staffed because it has suspended officers in a dispute about a COVID-19 vaccination mandate. "ILEAS (the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) typically responds to emergency situations where there is no opportunity for planning," Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain said Tuesday. "This situation to me is much different."
"It's like a preplanned police shortage," DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said. "The lack of logic is the thing that astounds me."

Chicago - About 30 minutes after a judge granted a temporary restraining order that prohibits the Fraternal Order of Police president to speak about the vaccine mandate, John Catanzara took to social media to deliver a message.
"We just had a court hearting about the city's temporary restraining order to prevent me from discussing the vaccine policy," said Catanzara. Chicago - More murders, more shootings and downtown looting. That's what a Chicago police officer says could happen this weekend, if the mayor does not repeal her vaccine mandate for the city's police department. (Snip) mayor issued a mandate that all city workers, including police, must be vaccinated and input their vaccine status into an online portal. Despite repeated attempts to find out where their personal information goes, including information that he said could easily be used to find where they live, his questions have gone unanswered. Chicago - The chief of the union that represents rank-and-file Chicago police officers warned that the force could be at half-strength over the weekend as a result of a City Hall mandate that officers must be either vaccinated against COVID-19 or tested regularly for the coronavirus. Saying the mayor's office has refused to bargain in good faith, John Catanzara, head of Chicago Lodge 7 of the Fraternal Order of Police, or FOP, said the union planned to file a class action lawsuit if city officials follow through on a promise to place police officers into "no-paid" status for refusing to participate in the city's vaccination portal.
