New government data shows that sales of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products increased last year for the first time in two decades, raising concerns that pandemic-related stress spurred an uptick in smoking. Sales of the addictive, cancer-causing products have been trending downward for three decades amid an array of government anti-smoking programs. (Snip) Tobacco executives believe that stimulus checks and enhanced unemployment benefits have made a difference as well, as lower-income smokers have been able to buy in bulk when they go to the store. “Fewer social engagements allow for more tobacco-use occasions,” Billy Gifford, chief executive of Marlboro cigarette

Because the feds were paying folks to stay home....and for some, with new found money.....a good bit of it goes to vices.
We got a check from the federal treasury yesterday for several thousand dollars....apparently more "Wuhan flu benefit' handouts. This is what is keeping people from working....checks just show up in the mail.
I'll save this money aside and pass at least half of it on to President Trump's campaign if he runs again.
I might buy a gun with the other half.

With the country going completely in the wrong direction I'm supposed to be upset that more people are smoking? After the nonsense that Fauci, the CDC, the FDA, the Environmental Protection Agency and legions of do-gooders have unleashed on the American people I cannot believe that people believe anything these liars say. You know that Democrats are in trouble whenever they unearth the "war on tobacco." I hope this time the Republicans don't participate. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Dear Lucianne, My girlfriend of three years won't quit smoking and it's driving me crazy. She lives to smoke. She stinks, and she is stinking up my whole house. I'm this close to breaking it off. signed... What do I do, in Brooklyn.

IT'S ADDICTIVE. I finally quit when I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. Off for 10 years now but fact is I can't guarantee I wouldn't go back. Stuff is poison.

Libs hate smoking, barrooms, attractive women, smashmouth football and hockey, and a laundry list of things they have undermined or banned. So smoking is coming back and they will probably double tax it again.

The government shouldn’t be complaining. Think of all the tax revenue coming in!

In hard times, invest in sin. Smokes and booze will be a good investment during Democrat rule. Misery has to be sooth and the lower class, middle-class can't afford anything like the latte liberals can buy.

Heavy cigarette smoking...like the Russian people. They smoke like trains. Just another sign of the times and the bring down of our country. Remember. Ruskies are big time smokers.

Well, this is an interesting "circle back". It was the campaign against smoking that brought us the precursor of the vac-passport; smoking and non-smoking sections in public places such as restaurants, movie theaters and airplanes. Since then "public health" has been the smokescreen for implementing Marxism in America. And now we have the circle back of all circle backs, the smokers will be the vanguard of noncompliance.
A tip for return or new smokers: Order bulk pipe tobacco, empty filter tubes and a cigarette making machine - you will skip all the federal and state taxes. Look for "roll your own" on your favorite search engine. If you order bulk cigarette tobacco there is a $25 per pound tax, but in the legislation they forgot about pipe tobacco and there are several mild blends that are very good. TK and I have been making our own for the last twenty-one years. We get three cartons per one-pound bag for $30. I couldn't begin to figure out how much we've screwed the government out of taxes, but it warms my heart every time we receive next month's shipment.
As to the health consequences, I consider them my ticket out of here. Personally, I can't wait to get to heaven. Even more so now that every day sees our beloved America and the world falling into the new feudalism of the Great Reset. Light one up for freedom!

One thing that may have contributed is that the government went after e-cigarettes. For a time, I could no longer order them online until the company determined if they could ship them to my state. Several states have banned online orders of e-cigarettes completely. If I could no longer get them, I would probably start smoking again, though I certainly don't want to. Smoked for 50 years and could never quit until e-cigarettes came along.

I had switched to vape pens which had very little cancer causing agents compared to cigarettes.
But then they cracked down on vaping because of... well actually because of nothing that was actually factual.
And at work they banned vaping because it was the fad to ban it.
So I'm back to cigarettes. If I got to walk all the way outside to vape then I might as well smoke.

As suspected, lots of that stimulus money went for smokes and booze.
