State legislators in three conservative western Maryland counties are seeking permission to secede from the state to join neighboring West Virginia.
In letters to West Virginia state House Speaker Roger Hanshaw (R) and Senate President Craig Blair (R), six Republican Maryland state legislators who represent Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties asked the legislature to consider adding their residents to the Mountaineer State.
“We believe this arrangement may be mutually beneficial for both states and for our local constituencies,” the identical letters read. “Please advise on next steps.”

Backlash from the last re-redistricting Gerrymander, in a year of re-redistricting.
And overplaying their slim Majorities, in many states as well as nationwide.

95% of the surface area of the U.S. did not vote for Biden. The conservative counties in Maryland are living a nightmare.

I am a citizen of the free state of West Virginia, and for the most part I like it pretty well. It would be good for truly oppressed people to join with us, but I am concerned. I've been to Maryland. The first thing you notice going from WV to MD is that the roads are better. The second thing you see are all the signs telling you what you are no longer allowed to do. They go on for miles.
If you join with us, drop the high tax, anti gun, nanny state communism. We like our bad roads, our guns and our freedom. And we like to be left alone. Dont vote for ten years and dont engage in any political activism. Refugees dont get to decide what everyone else is going to do.

I'm a transplant from Maryland and now live in PA. What I find are the RINOS and Liberals moving from Montgomery Maryland to Pennsylvania. They are trying to get away from what they did to Montgomery Maryland making it liberal and beyond unlivable. The problem is, after they get here in PA, they want to bring Montgomery County MD laws into our county. God help us.

It sounds like 3 MD counties want to flee communist run MD. How surprising.

Maryland can take Philadelphia from Pennsylvania if they want compensation. That would solidify them as a liberal hellhole and free Pennsylvania of a bunch of crime and corruption.

It would be similarly nice if Western Colorado would secede from the Peoples Republic of Colorado and join the State of Wyoming.

I lived in WV for 9 years, 1986-1995. The state was solidly blue back then due to the miner’s unions. Then along came 0bama and later Illary, both of whom were out to destroy the coal industry. I’m filled with schadenfreude for both of them.
Now if they can just get Manchin to switch parties.

Yes the roads are better once in Maryland, but if you've ever driven in the city of Baltimore, you'll find that an off road vehicle may have a tough time coming out in one piece. Also remember #4, all those signs of what's against the law were put in place by the demosluts in the center of the state populated by people employed by the federal government. The three western counties of Maryland, as well as the eastern shore and the two most eastern counties of Harford, and Cecil counties are populated by mostly Republican voters. I suspect the people who live in the counties that asked to leave Maryland have more in common with West Virginia than the people in central Maryland. As for loving bad roads. No one likes bad roads, and wanting decent roads to ride on doesn't make one a socialist. Drive up route one into Pa. through Chadds Ford and see how long that new alignment on your car holds up or your dental work.

West Virginia would welcome the freedom-loving citizens from Garrett, Allegany and Washington counties. They would be able to get a firearm carry permit--a feat that is almost impossible in Maryland, but is enjoyed by a high percentage of West Virginia residents. In Maryland, their lawmakers do not want the citizens to have firearms. In West Virginia, the lawmakers recently removed the state sales tax on the purchase of firearms and ammunition.

Watching intently from the Peoples Republic of Illinois. If they can figure out how to do this legally, I predict about 80% of Illinois counties petitioning Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky to change states. We have been unrepresented here for years.
