President Biden’s supply chain crisis is short 80,000 truck drivers, President and CEO of the American Trucking Association told CNN on Tuesday. Before the pandemic, the trucking industry was reportedly in need of 61,500 drivers, 30 percent less than in October.“That’s a pretty big spike,” Chris Spear said, noting that some drivers are leaving the industry and retiring while shipping ports remain filled to capacity with containers. The buildup of freight at the ports is likely due to a labor shortage spurred on by far-left policies of paying people not to work via large unemployment benefits.

Please do not make the huge mistake of thinking this is incompetence.
No, this was planned from the start. The Demon-Rats knew they would never have a better chance to destroy our economy, which would drive so many people and businesses out of business. That will force them on the welfare plantation, where we all know that people go and then stay for generations. Once they learn that lie-berals will give them lots of "free stuff", they will never be motivated to work again and will keep on voting for Demon-Rats who will promise to give them more "free stuff".
Between the Demon-Rat mastery of election theft, and their blatant destruction of our economy, they will have power indefinitely.
FJB and the entire Demon-Rat Party!!!!! Pure evil, top to bottom!!!!!

You know what would help? A vaccine mandate to make them feel safer!

Keep pushing the mandates. Chicago is about to find themselves short 50% of their cops because of it. Professionals are being forced out of the workforce with this stupid clot shot coercion.
There is no way Gov. Hairgel lets the filthy unvaxxed into Californistan to haul merchandise from the ports. They won't even let owner/operators in anymore.

We didn't have a problem until the Biden administration took office. Almost every problem we have is because of government interventionist policies.

Quid Pro Joe bragged that he once drove an 18 wheeler. Maybe he could be put to work driving a truck. But, first he should be given a test: How many wheels does and 18 wheeler have?

This must be why demonrats want to pass out another stimulus package. Laid off truck drivers aren't getting enough money now. Only in a demonrat pea sized brain would anyone consider this.

Where I live, we have quite a number of immigrants from everywhere and for the most part they are grateful to be here and work very hard. A lot of them are from Eastern Europe and the majority are truck drivers. God knows we can get along without community organizers but truck drivers are essential.

The trucking industry has always been at a disadvantage getting new drivers. In the US, one must be 21 to get a CDL Class A license. A Class B license allows for driving box trucks, Class A is for 18 wheelers. High school kids who are not college bound have many good career choices upon graduation; electrical, plumbing, HVAC, trade schools,, the military, and so forth. Trucking schools are not among the choices until these kids turn 21. Three years...and these kids have already completed their schooling and embarked on their new careers in other trades. There has always been a big demand for truckers because of this. Plus, add to the mix that Federal laws and heavy taxes are choking the trucking industry to death. And now, clot shot mandates.

Clearly, democrats are actively trying to destroy the economy for political purposes but how much of this chaos is also caused by their incompetency? We are fast finding out that a combination of malevolence and ineptitude is a toxic combination. Democrats destroy everything they touch on purpose and sadly, Republicans let them. By now President Trump would have the head of every trucking company and the union heads at the White House to begin to find a solution to this crisis. He would have never let the supply chain collapse like this regardless of the insane policies that California has enacted. He would have found a solution to the problem. This is just planned destruction on Biden’s part.
When are the Republicans going to wake up and realize that the democrat party is creating every problem we are facing for the sole purpose of bringing us to our knees. McConnell and McCarthy should be creating task forces for the sole purpose of revealing the reasons behind all this chaos. While they may be in the minority legislatively, they certainly are able to educate the public on why. Yet, they do nothing.

I agree with others who say this is not incompetence. They want chaos everywhere and a weakened America. They are trying to move us towards a Soviet style system where only the governing elite live well.
This may have worked in the Soviet Union for 8 decades, but it will not be so easy here. Americans have freedom in their DNA. Do not submit no matter what. Patrick Henry had it right.

Driving a truck isn't an easy job. Long hours, time away from home, nights. And if the government is just handing you money, and promising to be your nanny and take care of you, why would you bother? None of this is surprising.

#16 is correct. Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse has recently written some articles about this.. This is the result of California's version of the green new deal; it's all about emissions control for trucks. It has nothing to do with the "panedmic".

They're dictates, not mandates.
Don't overlook that even if there are enough truck drivers, California has strict laws limiting the trucks that can drive in the state. There are not enough trucks made that meet these laws. Many drivers don't want to drive to the state. That may change as prices skyrocket.

While Mayor, Pete Buttigieg, could not manage to get the potholes repaired in his city streets. Keeping supply chains functioning properly is a lot more complicated. He claims to have been working this problem for most of the year, but has nothing to show for it. Going to a third shift at one of the California ports (the other was already doing so) does nothing about a shortage of drivers. Not mentioned, are stricter pollution standards instituted earlier this year by California that reduced, by about half, the trucks that can enter the ports. Also, if the truckers are to be believed (and I do), the crane operators have been going slow. Also, fuel prices, inflation, Covid shot and mask mandates have had their effect. Some East coast have capacity, yet I have heard of no move to reroute to these ports.
Adding a third shift when you do not have trucks or drivers to cover it, is an empty jester.
