Alleged carjacking goes all wrong when
victim is trained in MMA, suspects have
‘no clue’ how to drive car

Using his mixed martial arts training, a Virginia man fought off three would-be alleged carjackers. In addition to perhaps picking the wrong potential victim, i.e., someone who has a particular set of skills (to quote Liam Neeson’s memorable line from the movie “Taken“), the alleged suspects’ attempt to flee the scene in the vehicle, moreover, was apparently thwarted because the ability to operate a stick shift has become a lost art. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Anytime Fitness in Stafford, Va., which is about 40 miles south of Washington, D.C., on Tuesday at about 5 p.m. when the attackers

Both my wife and I greatly prefer manual transmissions, but alas, some vehicles no longer offer them at all and we are forced to take the automatics. Most of our current vehicles are manuals, but not the 4Runner. Never considered the manual to be a "theft proofing" move, but with the dim fools stealing cars.....apparently the manual transmission and managing a clutch is essentially impossible. Cool!

Generally speaking, it's Dads who teach their 16 year olds how to drive a stick, so having a manual in certain neighborhoods is probably the best theft deterrent there is.

There are a great many unknowns and controversies associated with the COVID pandemic. Among the most urgent are those associated with appropriate therapeutic and prophylactic interventions. Some of the most intense disputes involve repurposed therapies — i.e., drugs that have been approved for the treatment of some other condition being used as therapy for COVID. This is the case with the anti-parasitic agent ivermectin. Much of the controversy regarding ivermectin involves "evidence" that the drug has a benefit in the treatment of COVID. Detractors will often use the hyperbolic claim that there is no evidence that ivermectin is useful in this setting.
