This isn't new phenomenon - when my father died in the early 80s, we were advised to have someone stay at the house during the funeral, so a family friend stayed and watched the house instead of attending the funeral. We also left several cars parked in the driveway.

When my nephew died, we were advised by the police to have someone stay home with a gun during the funeral for this reason. Not particularly unusual. Slimeballs are not uncommon.

Dramatic footage has captured the moment an Amtrak train slammed into a semi-truck car hauler at a railroad crossing near the Oklahoma-Texas border, sending cars flying into the air and leaving four people injured. Amtrak Train 822, which runs through Fort Worth, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was passing through Thackerville when it slammed into a tractor trailer that got stuck on the track. The cars on the back of the trailer are sent flying and the rig disintegrates into a cloud of debris.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio may have inadvertently started a religious revival in the Big Apple after announcing the elimination of the Gifted & Talented (G&T) program for the city’s schools. The Diocese of Brooklyn, which serves 1.2 million Catholics in Brooklyn and Queens, cited that their Catholic elementary schools’ enrollment grew by 2.4 percent for the current school year, according to a report by the New York Post. The increased interest in religious education comes after more than a decade of decline in enrollment for parochial schools in New York. But this year the tables are turned as public schools

Using his mixed martial arts training, a Virginia man fought off three would-be alleged carjackers. In addition to perhaps picking the wrong potential victim, i.e., someone who has a particular set of skills (to quote Liam Neeson’s memorable line from the movie “Taken“), the alleged suspects’ attempt to flee the scene in the vehicle, moreover, was apparently thwarted because the ability to operate a stick shift has become a lost art. The incident occurred in the parking lot of Anytime Fitness in Stafford, Va., which is about 40 miles south of Washington, D.C., on Tuesday at about 5 p.m. when the attackers

China launched a new hypersonic nuclear-capable missile that circled the entire globe at low-orbit in August, the Financial Times reported. US Intelligence and US Military officials were left stunned. “We have no idea how they did this,” a source told the Financial Times. According to the report, the missile missed its target by about 24 miles and caught US intel by surprise. Earlier this year, a satellite image showed China had expanded its nuclear missile silo field. “Identified via satellite imagery, the new missile base in China’s Xinjiang region may eventually include 110 silos, said the report released Monday by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS).

President Joe Biden’s chief of staff brushes off record-high inflation and the supply-chain crisis helping fuel it as “high class problems.” It’s a stunning admission of indifference from a well-connected multimillionaire — but just the latest example of this administration’s cluelessness about Americans’ suffering from its failures. “This,” Ron Klain emphasized Wednesday in quote-tweeting Harvard economist Jason Furman, who wrote, “Most of the economic problems we’re facing (inflation, supply chains, etc.) are high class problems. We wouldn’t have had them if the unemployment rate was still 10 percent. We would instead have had a much worse problem.”

Just before the world shut down, Paramount held a screening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, followed by a Q&A in which an audience member asked a question we never used to receive: “Could you make ‘Airplane!’ today?” My response: “Of course, we could. Just without the jokes.” Although people tell me that they love “Airplane!” and it seems to be included on just about every Top Five movie-comedy list, there was talk at Paramount of withholding the rerelease

Several years ago, during a high school class discussion on the cost of education versus training, my son brought up the fact that his brother was a Navy SEAL. He mentioned the cost to training him was about $1,000,000. One his classmates said: “You’re parents spent a million dollars on your brother?”. We didn’t, of course. The government paid for his training and, when he reenlisted overseas with a substantial bonus, his training, education, and bonuses totaled, well, let’s say a lot of money. If my son was still on active duty and he refused a vaccine that he didn’t want and didn’t need,

Nearly a year has passed since the 2020 election, yet there has not been a clear, satisfactory answer to the central mystery: How did a dull, declining Joe Biden manage to get more than 81 million votes and win the presidency? After all, Biden spent most of the pandemic-laced campaign in his Delaware basement and his appearances were marked by sparse crowds and signs he had lost more than a step. Yet he flipped five states Hillary Clinton lost in 2016, including Georgia and Arizona, and racked up 306 electoral votes to Donald Trump’s 232.
