The U.S. Marine who posted videos on social media criticizing military leadership and the Biden administration’s withdrawal of military assets from Afghanistan was issued a letter of reprimand and a forfeiture of $5,000 worth of pay for one month, after pleading guilty to all charges during his court-martial hearing this week. Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jr. pled guilty to all six misdemeanor-level charges Thursday, including willfully disobeying a superior commissioned officer, dereliction in the performance of duties and conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman.

I really expected them to bury him under Leavenworth.

Maybe coming out as a President Trump hater helps him a little here?
I dunno as I’m quite ignorant of military justice courts martial rules, procedures, and punishments.

He saved his ass when he came out as a Trump hater. The higher ups in the military are all plants from the Obama/Biden era. Read "The Man in the Arena" by Navy Seal Chief (Ret.) Eddie Gallagher and Andrea Gallagher if you want to see what Trump supporters are up against in the military.

They didn’t dare do anything worse to him - he would have become a martyr and freedom loving patriots would have made their lives hell.

By keeping him in the Marines, they have effectively muzzled him.
If they had given him a discharge, he would have started appearing on television and radio, disrupting their narrative...

This is a pretty reasonable sentence, it would seem at first look. As much as he was RIGHT, he understood that the military doesn't permit this sort of public criticism of leadership, and never has, by regulations.
I still don't understand why he did wait the 3 days until he was retired, and then criticize. It would still be potentially 'illegal', but would seem to have drawn much less response.

So he wasn’t given a dishonorable discharge and is still in the military?

#7, earlier reports were that he was 3 days from retirement when he released the video. I presume that he has been or soon will be retired. Apparently keeping pension and benefits.
It could have been a lot worse.

I don’t get why he did this. What difference did it make? And after he spit in Trump’s face he lost the only people willing to defend him. It just made him look like he wanted attention. I guess he got it.

The Marines didn't need to light any fuse. LTC Scheller made his point, and everyone walks away.

Well he didn't disobey a superior officer. No superior officer ever told him not to speak up.

I’m surprised he didn’t get a more severe punishment. According to the Marine Times, in addition demanding accountability, his anti- boomer and anti-Trump, Obama etc. rants were concluded in a post where he wanted to burn it all to the ground. This is not the rational criticism everyone focuses on. JMO, the guy has some issues which goes beyond his critique of leadership.

I don't care that he doesn't like Trump, he still did a right thing by speaking out. Even if a little off the rails at points, but doesn't high frustration levels make just about anyone react in more drastic measures? As for his reasoning that Trump divides the nation, he really doesn't - so much as defines what it is that divides us. Nobody focuses on what could possibly unite us.

A rank opportunist if you ask me--and he kissed whatever ring he had to so as to be able to keep his pension.

The Biden “woke” aligned USMC command element that decided to fine Scheller $5,000.00 just screwed his wife and children out of Scheller’s earnings for a couple of months. Who knows maybe Biden will give them medals for outstanding performance.

If he had 17 years in, he was 3 YEARS from retirement, not 3 DAYS. Military can retire with full benefits and pension at 20 years. Anything less than that is without Tricare benefits and pension.

OK, it was reported that he was "3 days from retirement" in one of the articles written on him.
