I've never watched The View other than clips of notable segments offering a glimpse into the minds of female progressive media people. One such four-minute mini-discussion took place Tuesday that, I think, reveals that the gun-grabbers have lost the battle for control of the narrative on gun ownership. Gun ownership by Blacks is rapidly expanding in the wake of the George Floyd riots and the demonization of police (snip) What really struck me was Joy Behar citing the history of gun control as a means of keeping Blacks disarmed (snip) Behar even predicted that now that Blacks are buying firearms, we'll see more gun control efforts!

I wish Ma Behar would buy a gun, maybe a .45 or other large caliber. Read the article to fully understand this comment - in Ma's own words what she would do if she owned a firearm.

Here’s a simple fact to remember: EVERYTHING that lefties tell you about guns, gun owners, gun use and gun control laws is a lie. Period.

It is becoming more clear that almost no one is buying the leftist disarmament fraud. This is one of the great advantages that the movement to make carrying a concealed weapon legal for law abiding citizens. As people have had a friend or a relative that they know and trust own and carry a gun for years, it has become clear that the "guns cause violence" claim isn't true. People see that good people carrying a gun cause no problems. They see it personally. Now we have 21 states where any adult who can legally own a handgun can legally carry it concealed, no permit from the government required. The 2nd Amendment is their permit. ..."The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." almost half of the states now take that just as it was meant to be read.
The NRA has supported ALL people exercising their 2nd Amendment rights. Roy Innis, leader of the black civil rights group the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) was an NRA director for many years, and an NRA Life Member. Innis famous for getting in an on-air brawl on Geraldo Rivera's TV show with an (actual) white supremacist and in the fight Geraldo got involved and got his nose broken. Grin.
The NRA has always been about civil rights, and gun rights and racial equality are civil rights. All people should be able to defend themselves if attacked, and being skilled with a gun is a real way to effectively defend yourself.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I seem to remember reading that the NRA was created for the purpose of allowing blacks to own guns to protect themselves.

#10. Not originally.
The NRA was created in the 1870s by retired generals and colonels who had noticed that huge numbers of the conscripts in the recently ended Civil War were from the cities and had no idea how to shoot a gun. They wanted to sponsor shooting matches and training to make citizens more skilled at arms so that, in the event of another war, the army could have a 'leg up' on training. For most of it's first 50 years, the NRA was a competition sanctioning body, standardizing courses of fire, targets, and helping set up ranges for competition. There were essentially no firearms laws, so no political effort to protect rights were needed.
The civil rights aspect of gun ownership was entirely unnecessary until the 1910s thru 30s when big eastern cities (NYC leading the way, of course) started restricting owning and carrying guns. Then the NRA slowly began working for rights, but until the 1968 federal Gun Control Act, there were NO federal laws that treated an gun any different than a hammer or pipe wrench except for machine guns, taxed heavily in 1934.
Mail order sales of any gun to anyone was normal until 1967. I bought guns through the mail as a teen, prior to the federal law. After 1968, as the feds started restricting gun ownership, the NRA started becoming active to protect gun owner rights, and that included the rights of minorities.

Checking out latest polls yesterday, I saw where The View has lost over 600K viewers this past year. Wonder why Whoopi was just signed for a few more years at millions of dollars? No one is watching.

Post Civil War, the NRA was formed at a time when governments were attempting to make gun ownership by blacks illegal. The NRA fought that.
And I don't recall the NRA proposing gun control for blacks. That is absurd.
The NRA has, however, endorsed the strict enforcement of existing gun laws, excluding felons from gun ownership.
