A court-ordered mental health evaluation found the man charged with killing 10 people at a Colorado King Soopers supermarket unfit to stand trial, but a judge granted prosecutors' request for a second competence evaluation. The initial evaluation report was not released but, according to a filing by prosecutors last week, state experts provisionally diagnosed Ahmad Alissa, 22, with an unspecified mental health condition that 'limit(s) his ability to meaningfully converse with others' and concluded that he is not currently able to assist his lawyers in defending him.(Snip)Ten people were killed, including a police officer, before police shot and wounded the gunman,

When Chief Justice John Roberts delivered the decisive vote in 2012 that upheld Barack Obama’s signature achievement in office, the Affordable Care Act, he reportedly did so following a month-long campaign by fellow conservatives to try to get him to join their side. His decision to side with liberal colleagues inspired ire on the right but it also cemented the chief justice’s role as the leader of his own court. That was then.(Snip)“Roberts is only marginally in charge to the extent that he can bring Kavanaugh or Barrett with him,” said Josh Blackman at the South Texas College of Law Houston. Mayor Bill de Blasio just discovered a whole new world of people who can’t stand him. Hizzoner was ruthlessly jeered at Monday’s Columbus Day Parade, where several members of the crowd shouted obscenities and insults at him as he made his return to the yearly Italian American celebration. “[Expletive] you, you piece of [expletive],” a man yelled at the mayor, igniting applause from other attendees.
“[Expletive] you, de Blasio. You piece of garbage,” screamed another as the mayor strolled down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. “Get out of here, you piece of [expletive]. You’re garbage.” East Villager Suzan Miller waved an Italian flag as she explained to The Post why she felt

Minnetonka Moccasin Co., the Minneapolis company that over 75 years popularized Native American-styled footwear across the country, issued a formal apology Monday for adopting Native American culture without acknowledgment. The company, which dropped "moccasin" from its logo in 2008, has now removed the word from much of its corporate messaging and is calling itself simply Minnetonka.
"Minnetonka deeply and meaningfully apologizes for having benefited from selling Native-inspired designs without directly honoring Native culture or communities," the company said in a statement.
The company said it would work more closely with Native American artists and businesses and continue to contribute to Native American causes. "While our history with appropriation

A federal appellate court has ruled in favor of 16 college athletes who challenged Western Michigan University‘s coronavirus vaccine mandate. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit unanimously sided Thursday with the students, upholding a district court ruling enjoining school officials from forcing the athletes to get vaccinated. The students had sued, claiming that the school denied or did not review their request for religious exemptions from the vaccine requirement. “The University’s failure to grant religious exemptions to plaintiffs burdened their free exercise rights. The University put plaintiffs to the choice: get vaccinated or stop fully participating in intercollegiate sports,” the court wrote

The Pentagon’s former software chief said he quit because China has already won the tech war guaranteeing global dominance—with some US government systems mere “kindergarten level” in comparison. Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the Financial Times on Sunday that there is “good reason to be angry” at the US failing to rise to China’s cyber threat, even fearing that it puts his children’s future at risk.
“We have no competing fighting chance against China in 15 to 20 years. Right now, it’s already a done deal; it is already over, in my opinion,” Nicolas Chaillan, 37, told the paper. Chaillan—who was the Pentagon’s first chief software officer—said China will dominate
