China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is facing growing opposition from participating countries as their debts associated with Chinese projects mount, according to a recent study. Launched in 2013 by Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the BRI might be losing its impetus due to a debt-based backlash, according to a study from AidData, a research lab at William & Mary’s Global Research Institute. The study analyzed 13,427 projects backed by China in more than 165 countries over 18 years. The projects’ total value amounts to $843 billion. (snip)35 percent of BRI’s projects dealt with implementation problems, “such as corruption scandals, labor violations, environmental hazards, and public protests.”

Comments:

This was a key part of their decades-long strategy to “help” these countries and surpass the United States and become the #1 global power by 2049. Countries being “helped” finding it a costly helping hand...

Too bad, idiots. Now you got in bed with the Chinese, and they aren't going to take no for an answer. Prepare to be overrun by them if you don't comply. None of you are strong enough to stop them on your own, and we aren't coming to help you. You dealt with the mob, now deal with the consequences.

Really, the US could have done this and "made friends". Instead, China tosses money at a "project", gets its payback in pay checks, and has hold of these debtor countries by the nose. The current kleptocrats don't worry about debt - they'll all be gone, fleeing like the Afghans did before the debt comes due. Let some colonel and his klepto-saviors worry.

So all these countries should form as one group & tell the Chicoms we are not gonna pay unless terms are better for us. The rest of the World tells the Chicoms we won't enforce any judgements you get on them for stiffing you as Wuhan payback. They will have no choice but to agreed.

That's how the ChiCom's end up owning just about every port in the world by "participating countries" defaulting on their debt and the ChiCom take the assets to wipe out the debt. It's a strategy that's giving the ChiComs a lot control in the flow of world wide commerce!

Hidden within the fine print of these "contracts," if the payments fall behind, China become owner of things like mines, areable lands, public land, even state-owned businesses. New slaves to grow food and mine minerals for their Chinese overlords. Demographically, China is a disaster. Soon the median age there will be 49! They need these new slaves and their lands.

Here’s how it worked with the CCP the only winner: FTA: The BRI—which serves as a tool for the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) global expansion—finances enormous loans to developing nations for building infrastructure. The ostentatious projects have been described as being a part of so-called debt-trap diplomacy since the often unpayable loans will force the nations to repay China with goods or land. Chinese state-owned banks provide the countries with loans they can barely afford. The loans are then used to pay Chinese companies in order to build infrastructure, including the development of roads, ports, power plants, mines, telecommunications, or banking institutions. When the nations are unable to pay, they must grant China assets like long-term exploitation rights for natural resources, or leases of infrastructure built using the loans.

Spending on tests to detect the novel coronavirus soared in Wuhan, China, several months before the first official reporting of COVID-19 cases, suggesting the virus was already circulating in communities during the northern summer in 2019 before it was made public by Beijing, according to research by Australian cybersecurity firm Internet 2.0. The firm tracked the sales of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests over several years, revealing an almost 50 percent increase between 2018 to 2019—the year before the COVID-19 outbreak spread across the world. Sales of PCR tests, used to detect specific viruses, totaled 19.1 million yuan (AU$4 million) in 2016, before rising to 29.1 million yuan

Three glistening new buildings in downtown Seattle with 165 studio apartments — originally to be rented at market rates — will instead house the homeless. The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is buying the buildings with taxpayer dollars for about $50 million, with federal COVID-19 relief funds splitting the cost equally.
