Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp all remain down in what is now a four-hour-long global outage that experts say was caused by an internal error on Monday morning.
Between 11.50am EST and 11.52am EST, Facebook made a series of updates to its border gateway protocol (BGP) which caused it to 'disappear' from the internet. The BGP allows for the exchange of routing information on the internet and takes people to the websites they want to access. Facebook's changes included withdrawals which removed its properties from the domain naming system it operates and essentially made it impossible for anyone to connect to the sites

How did the world survive? /s
Really, is it possible some people actually got some work done instead of playing online? Some of the largest companies in the world are worthless to manknd.

One giant step for free speech and regaining civil discourse today. If you can go cold turkey on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsAp today, maybe you can survive without them for good. Like going cold turkey from cigarettes or drugs. The first day may be hard, but it gets easier each day after.

Amen, #2! My husband is absolutely addicted to Fakebook and it drives me crazy. I’m out of town so I don’t have to witness his withdrawal but I would love for it to be permanent.

What can you say about a man who tweets Sincere apologies and puts quotation marks around the word "Sincere?"

It's approaching 6 pm EDT and it's still 'Something went wrong. Please try again.' People are going to miss their dopamine hits of 'likes' and shares.

Overwhelming anti- Biden sentiment is the real reason. Democrats had to pull the plug.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling the web feed. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the information. We will control the response. We can roll the facts, make them flutter. We can change the information to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next few hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: There is nothing wrong with your computer. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The Outer Limits.

It was so catastrophic that I didn't even notice. And that is how it should be with socialist media.

Wish they'd gotten Twitter'd in the bargain. There is a breath of fresh air across this nation, for one. Hopefully for other countries too.

Oh my goodness. I have family in the technology fields and this was HUGE. Worldwide this outage was being discussed on forums. The fix wasn’t so hard (I was told) but they were physically locked out of where the workers need to go and couldn’t get in. (Computer-controlled security.)
Again, having had family who worked in that industry I can tell you there was screaming in FB headquarters. Feel so bad for the people who had to fix this and were responsible. Bet they wish they hadn’t been born right now. Their lives are hell at the moment. The tech industry is vicious.

Maybe FB staff should focus on running the computers, instead of reading and censoring Trump and followers postings.

Catastrophic? Why? Those addicted to FB might suffer some withdrawal symptoms but thats about it. I might go on FB once a week and the only reason I have it at all is so Mrs. Holliday can keep up with our grandchildren. I would love to dump it but I would have to dodge flying skillets.
Now if you want to see something catastrophic, let the internet itself go down for weeks or months. Business runs on the internet now. Think about it. If the outage was long-lived....no more Amazon or Netflix or any streaming service. My business software stores all our client data on a secure serve 2,000 miles away. We don’t keep paper files as a backup anymore so we would have no way to access the data and provide service to our customers. We are like thousands and thousands of other small businesses. The world would survive without Facebook (no FB would actually be a good thing). We would all go back to paper files, snail mail and fax machines.
