For the fourth consecutive month, Washington, D.C., saw more of its residents murdered than died of COVID-19. Since July 1, 42 coronavirus deaths have been reported in the nation’s capital versus 77 homicide victims. The district also had recorded 100 murders by early July, the earliest it had marked that grim number in nearly two decades. The average date over the past 10 years when the city usually hit 100 is Oct. 25.
The number of homicides doubled COVID deaths during each of the three summer months as, like many major U.S. locales, Washington continues to grapple with a surge in murders. Meanwhile,

One of the more common questions that’s been making the rounds lately, particularly in terms of how various countries are handling their pandemic responses, is “what the heck is happening to Australia?” The most heavily populated states in the country have been imposing some of the harshest lockdowns and COVID restrictions in the world, with videos emerging showing police firing rubber bullets into crowds, macing elderly women, and beating people down in the streets, all for the crime of being outdoors without permission. But now even more chaos down under is making headlines. The main focus seems to be on the state of New South Wales,

For the second time in recent months, billionaire socialist George Soros contributed money to influence Austin politics. He is contributing big bucks to defeat Proposition A which, among other things, will fund the hiring of more police officers in the city. Proposition A would establish a minimum staffing level for the Austin Police Department of 2 officers per 1,000.
Austin is experiencing an increase in attrition in police ranks which is now 15 to 20 departures per month this year. Austin is the state capitol and a university town, too, so a fully staffed police department is a necessity for the safety and protection

President Joe Biden on Saturday called out two Democrat Senate moderates, Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), for blocking his $3.5 trillion agenda and creating divisions with the more leftist factions of the party.
“We can bring the moderates and progressives together very easy if we had two more votes,” Biden told reporters Saturday. “Two. Two people.”
Biden’s comments shift the blame for his legislative failures to the senators, which suggests it will only fuel growing leftist protests against them.
Sinema was chased into a bathroom stall by Living United for Change in Arizona activists, who demanded amnesty for illegal immigrants and support for Biden’s Build Back Better plan.

If you took the weekend off from the internet, you missed one of the most absurd scenes in politics to play out in a while. U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) was harassed and followed into an Arizona State University bathroom while multiple people filmed the entire thing.
The activists, at least one of whom was apparently an illegal immigrant, were demanding she pass a pathway to citizenship via reconciliation, which is odd given the Senate parliamentarian has already said that can’t happen. But I mean, did you really expect logic from people who stalk people into bathrooms to scream at them over political disagreements?
And sure enough,

The Chinese government’s stranglehold on tech companies shows no sign of letting up. The Communist government believes it is time to enact more of what they’re calling “anti-monopoly measures” in hopes of spreading wealth and encouraging more competition.
President Xi Jinping’s idea of preventing this involves more government involvement, not loosening the reins more to encourage competition. Just look at the guides to foreigners looking to start Chinese-based companies. They’re chock full of barriers like forcing companies to stay in their lane on products and services. The government shuts businesses down if they stray from the service path. Not conducive to a positive business environment.

Democrats are ripping into each other this weekend after the failure of the infrastructure bill to go forward for a vote, when progressives tried to hold it hostage in order to get a vote on the spreading spree budget reconciliation bill.
As we reported, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) flamed the Democratic leaders for not putting on the vote as promised this week and countenancing the “stunt” of the progressives.
Media isn’t being silent about the toxic nature of the rift between the Democrats, either.
But what it boils down to is that this was allegedly Joe Biden’s agenda — these were two bills he was putting forward,

Republicans in Congress have had so little fun since Joe Biden and the Democrats swept into office. Being out of power, they can’t oppress women, blacks, and other minorities like they used to. They can pick on Mexicans and other foreigners who show up at the border, but that gets old real quick.
So, can we really blame Republicans for getting enjoyment out of watching Democrats impale themselves on the horns of their debt limit dilemma?
The debt limit must be raised. But Democrats don’t want to walk the plank on raising it alone. They need Republicans to hold their hands while they go into the water.

Remember that Pelosi will need all of the moderates in her caucus plus a few centrist Republicans to eventually pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill. That’s because some — not all, but some — progressives are demanding that the Senate pass a reconciliation bill before the House votes on anything. But there’s no chance of that happening. The most that Senate Dems like Manchin and Sinema will do in the near term to reassure House lefties that reconciliation will ultimately get done is agree to an informal public “framework.”
That may not be good enough for Pramila Jayapal, the Squad, and a few other hardliners.

The latest Associated Press/NORC poll numbers were released yesterday and the news wasn’t very encouraging for President Joe Biden or his supporters. Following several weeks of consistently bad headlines, it would seem that people are beginning to sour on the “Build Back Better” presidency. This poll has consistently been a bit kinder to Biden than some of the other major polling outfits and that was once again the case this week. The report from the AP also seems to try to paint a somewhat more charitable picture, but the reality is that Biden’s numbers were down across the board. But the decline we’re seeing isn’t coming from Republicans and conservatives

The Hampton Roads Black Caucus (HRBC) endorsed Republican Glenn Youngkin in Virginia’s gubernatorial race, Youngkin revealed during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Saturday.
Youngkin, who is facing former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) in the November 2 election, said he had just received the endorsement Saturday morning.
“I am so honored and humbled, and it just reflects the fact that there is broad-based support for a platform that’s going to bring down our cost of living and cut taxes so people can keep more of their paycheck,” Youngkin said.

Digital media firm Ozy Media abruptly shut down Friday following allegations of fraud and a reportedly toxic workplace environment, leaving big-time investors, including Laurene Powell Jobs — the powerful leftist billionaire widow of Steve Jobs — in the dust with their multimillion-dollar investments.
The company, founded in 2013, abruptly shut down this week following the publication of a damaging New York Times article, reporting that someone at Ozy allegedly impersonated a YouTube executive during a business meeting with Goldman Sachs investors, who were apparently considering a $40 million investment in the company.
