A hiker in Tennessee claimed that he saw Brian Laundrie, who is wanted by the FBI, near the Appalachian Trail near the North Carolina border on Saturday. Dennis Davis(snip) said that he saw a man who resembled Laundrie driving a white pickup truck around 12:30 a.m. ET on Saturday in the area. Davis recalled that he didn’t at the time realize the driver was Laundrie. After the encounter, he looked up photos of the FBI fugitive, who is wanted on fraud charges but is a person of interest in the death of his fiance, Gabby Petito. “There is no doubt about it. That was Brian Laundrie I was just talking to.

Comments:

Davis also reported his sighting to FBI and local LE. Gabby Petito’s best girlfriend, who also knew Brian, said he had once camped alone on the Appalachian Trail for three months. He’ll be found, and I don’t believe he has the guts to do himself in. Mommy’s Boy.

So where did the white pickup come from? First a new phone, now a new vehicle? Did he always have this truck, or did mommy and daddy provide money to buy it, and what address was used for registration of the vehicle?

Why would you openly post this? You’d think the FBI and others would want as much cover and surprise as possible. Now the guy knows everyone knows where he was supposedly recently seen!

Reliability of eyewitnesses seeing something opposite a guy who actually had a verbal as well as visual encounter, a conversation, with a wanted man whose face in still shots and multiple videos, from various angles, and heard him speak would be no contest. More than just a quick visual. And in a place the wanted person was known to be comfortable, to hang out. The truck? It’s been over a month. He has money. He has complicit parents. Easy peasy. I thought that someone who wanted to look into his mind could skim through the two books he was said to be reading.

A bad edit in my last reply. An eyewitness vs. someone who actually had an encounter with a wanted man whose face, body and voice were available for weeks on the internet? No contest. Many have a visual memory - I have - and a person met at that hour of the night in that place would have made an impression. I would think LE would be interested in tips that seemed to have some substance based upon encounters in places where the wanted person would reasonably be believed to be. As for this tipping off Brian by being publicized, every encounter has been publicized. He knows they’re after him. Keep him running. This guy said the man was in bad mental/emotional shape. Good. Being on the run has to be very tough indeed.

More questions: Why would he deliberately start a conversation with a stranger and call attention to himself in the middle of the night, when he's supposedly 'on the run'? Why is he making up story about girlfriend in California calling him? Why wouldn't he make some attempts to disguise himself if he's driving around where there are other people?

I have the idea that he is in a remote motel somewhere financed by his parents. You would think that the staff might turn him in but there are millions of people out there who mind their own business and don’t keep up with national news. When I traveled all over the country fishing for trout and everything else I stayed in some dumps that made the “no-tell motels” look like the Ritz-Carlton. I don’t think he is in the wilderness and I don’t think he has Eric Rudolph skills to last years there.

Re #11, why would he act very strangely with the woman who gave him a ride? Why would he inject himself into a private conversation at a bar, insulting those in the conversation as “f-ing Republicans” and making a point of saying he was from New York and he had a name, Brian? He is not right in the head.
