Report: Biden Failed to Persuade Joe Manchin
to Support $3.5 Trillion Spending Bill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) will reportedly still not support Joe Biden’s $3.5 trillion reconciliation package for the time being, despite the president’s efforts to persuade him, according to Axios. On Wednesday, sources told Axios that President Joe Biden reportedly hosted Manchin for a meeting at the White House where he failed to persuade the senator into agreeing with the $3.5 trillion bill. Axios was told Biden explained to Manchin his opposition could imperil the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill that’s already passed the Senate. Biden’s analysis did little to persuade Manchin to raise his top line. Manchin held his position and appears willing to let the bipartisan bill hang in the balance

If this is the typical Manchin, he's angling for the biggest payoff ever. The question is, why isn't Xiden just giving it to him? Not like whatever he wants would be anything more than a drop in the bucket anyway, and it wouldn't be coming out of Xiden's pocket anyway. Can't figure this one out. Maybe Manchin is demanding something other than a normal payout. I can't believe he found integrity at this late date, and he isn't up for re-election until 2024 so he can't be worried about that yet. Something very odd about this hold out.

Good news. I had lunch with an old friend of over 40 years today, and he mentioned how precarious things are when we are counting on a pair like Manchin and Sinema as our final bulwark against Dem destruction. A flimsy bulwark, but it is all we have.

By supporting Biden's pork bill, Manchin ends his career. Easy enough choice. Unless of course Biden makes the retirement package big enough. Green energy would kill West Virginia's coal, gas and oil industry and, other than tourism, that's all they've got.

Poster # 8 is correct. Manchin was reelected with 49% of the vote in a three way race. Trump carried West Virginia with 68% and with every county in the state was red. Manchin has no wiggle room about voting with the radical left or he will become persona non grata in the Mountain State. Poster # 9: Manchin is up for reelection in 2024, not 2022.

Taking advantage of an apparent lapse in border security at the junction of Del Rio, Texas and Mexico, hundreds of migrants crossed the Rio Grande River and illegally entered the United States. Video footage recorded by Fox News depicts masses of people wading into the water to reach the other side. Within the last day, an estimated 11,000 migrants have congregated under the Del Rio international bridge, waiting to be apprehended by U.S. border patrol for processing. Many of the migrants have set up encampments and shelters, according to photos Fox News captured. The federal government is reportedly bringing in school buses from the local Texas school district

U.S. Border Patrol officials closed all highway immigration checkpoints operating in the Laredo Sector on Friday evening in response to the Haitian migrant crisis unfolding in Del Rio, Texas, according to a source within Customs and Border Protection. The Laredo Sector operates six permanent checkpoints including one of the busiest checkpoints in the nation located on the I-35 Interstate corridor between Laredo and San Antonio. Laredo Sector Border Patrol highway checkpoints inspect thousands of vehicles daily. Staffing normally reserved for the inspections that result in the seizure of countless migrants and illicit narcotics will be diverted to assist with the care, transport, and processing of more than 10,000 mostly Haitian migrants

Laredo, Tex. -Checkpoints in and out of Laredo have been shut down. In a video interview, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar told KGNS the decision comes from the Federal Government as it tries to send available Border Patrol agents to Del Rio due to the influx of migrants. It’s been an overwhelming situation for Del Rio officials to handle for the past 48 hours. More than 12,000 migrants, mostly from Haiti, have been gathering under the international bridge between Del Rio and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. Officials are scrambling to bring reinforcements from across the country. The checkpoints in Laredo have been left unmanned since 6 p.m. Friday

Stunning helicopter footage shot Friday shows hundreds of illegal immigrants streaming into Texas from Mexico across the Rio Grande — with no intervention form authorities on either side of the border. On Thursday, the FAA instituted a two-week flight restriction over the city of Del Rio

PARIS — French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Friday evening that France is immediately recalling its ambassadors to the U.S. and Australia in a backlash over a submarine deal. Le Drian said in a statement that the decision, on request from President Emmanuel Macron, “is justified by the exceptional seriousness of the announcements” made by Australia and the United States. He said the cancellation by Australia of a big contract to buy French conventional submarines in favor of nuclear-powered subs built with U.S. technology is “unacceptable behavior.”

An advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration on Friday recommended against approving a booster shot of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to most Americans. The scientific advisory committee voted 16-to-3 against recommending the additional shots, thwarting the Biden administration’s hopes that the FDA would approve the third shot in time to begin rolling out the extra dose for Pfizer recipients next week. The vote followed a daylong debate in which a number of the panel’s independent experts questioned whether the data justified a broad rollout of an additional shot to most Americans while the vaccines still appear to offer strong protection against severe COVID-19 disease and hospitalization.

With all the arguments around the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill and the bipartisan infrastructure bill, one issue that has fallen by the wayside is that of the debt ceiling. In order for Democrats to get what they want, it will have to be lifted, which means we are headed for another major shutdown battle in the coming weeks. Janet Yellen, the Treasury Secretary, recently called Sen. Mitch McConnell to lobby his support to raise the debt ceiling.
