For conservatives sorting through the wreckage of the unsuccessful California gubernatorial recall effort, there are reasons to be hopeful. Here are five of them. First, for a liberal like Gov. Gavin Newsom to break a sweat in a liberal bastion speaks volumes. It would be akin to the 1992 Olympic Dream Team struggling to hold off Cuba for the basketball gold medal.
Sure, the outcome was not close, but when Democrats outnumber Republicans nearly two-to-one, this race should never have risen to the level it did. Ink should never even have been spilled on its analysis.
Keep smearing lipstick on that pig.
Votes mean nothing, and until we start addressing that, we will remain communist.

The author describes Newsom as telegenic. I marvel that anyone watching Newsom on TV would describe this unattractive man with an unpleasant horse voice as telegenic. Twenty plus years ago, when Mayor Willie Brown appointed Newsom to the San Francisco board of supervisors, one might have found his visage pleasant although much of that came from his youth. His looks now match his tawdry, incompetent and mendacious character.

And the worst point he is trying to make.
"Secondly, the Golden State has become ungovernable for anyone, especially a Republican. The state is too big, the problems are too serious and the Democratic one-party rule is too strong. "
Which he is saying, not a big loss, since it is a mess right now.
By that flawed logic, we should also give up on America because Biden turned the country into a mess.
Idiotic article, idiotic argument, from someone who seems to be trying hard to spin the failure of the spineless RNC who did not back Larry Elder, and the rest of the idiots who ran and took some of the votes.
I said this many times, and I will say it again. Unless the voting system is fixed, mail-in ballot nonsense stopped, it will be hard for anyone not approved by the democrats to win elections.

Vote fraud overrides the actual vote. THAT's the lesson.

Sorry, Colin, but I couldn't get past your first reason. There was no moral victory in this, and ink was spilled because banal discussion makes money on blogs and websites across the nation these days. Nothing more.

The candidates other than Larry Elder didn’t take one vote away from the Yes to recall vote. The RNC stayed out of the recall since they considered an official Republican presence the kiss of death. Big money and big media were what made Newsom’s win so large. He won big. He didn’t have to cheat. Most voters here are ardent members of the Church of the Democratic Party.

I blame all the Republicans that abandoned California instead of staying here and fighting for their State. I imagine they will also abandon America when the fighting gets too tough to save her as well. Republicans refuse to fight. They simply run away and then bad mouth all of us that have stayed. Where was the National Republican Party when we needed help to oust Newsom? We got a talk show guy this time and an actor last time. Gee thanks. Most complainers of California do not reside in California. I love God, my wife and kids, America and yes, California. I will stay and fight. I will not run away. I am not a Republican. I am a Christian Conservative. Have a blessed day.

The GOP lost ---- but that is a good thing. I remember when GW sent some guy to Iraq, who knew nothing about the country, and we were told that --- bit that is a good thing. So Biden should be in a nursing home, Blinken and the Pentagon are fools, and the government is ran by communists, but conservatives will be told --- but that is a good thing. After all, the GOP and the Democrats are controlled by their donors, not us --- and that's a good thing.

#7. Maybe give New York back to the Indians. Makes as much sense. Biden and crew are bent on dividing the nation against itself making their goals easier to attain. You really want to back that? I honestly hope not.

Eight million signed the recall petition. Elder only received two million votes. 'Nuff said.

#12 - I don't know from where you're getting your numbers. Per Ballotpedia, the recall petition garnered 2.1 million signatures, of which 1.7 million were proven valid. 3.3 million voted for the recall this week; 5.8 million against. And for what it was worth, Elder captured less than 2.4 million votes.

Bless you and your Family, #9...
so loved CA, it was a 10-year prayer to move there to get a degree at Masters in Santa Clarita...
Sadly, CA became too oppressive...
my church was open in [Appleville] Cupertino, except for 2 weeks, but family at a liberal Methodist Church with a now married gay pastor had polluted Daughter’s worldview, no matter a classical Christian education, and 4 yrs of Latin and two
of Greek!

Where did you get the "8 million signed the recall petition" number from?
Look up the article.
"Who wants to recall Gov. Newsom? Signatures point to Trump’s California
By Swetha Kannan and Sandhya Kambhampati
April 29, 2021"
And you'll see.
"The Times analysis studied the 1,626,042 voter signatures verified by local election officials and reported Monday by the secretary of state's office. Not included are about 400,575 signatures that officials rejected."
And the article was panicking, suggested Trump is taking over California.
The official numbers, from the Los Angeles article.

FTA: Secondly, the Golden State has become ungovernable for anyone,
OK. Let's talk about that. Any chance the state could be divided up into 3 or 4 states?
BTW, other large states like Alaska (area wise) or Texas don't seem to have a governance problem... but that's because... uh.... Beuller?
