Afghan refugee trolled after sharing photo

An Afghan refugee faced online harassment after tweeting out a photo showing his meager food rations at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Hamed Ahmadi, 28, a Fulbright semi-finalist, tweeted the photo showing some anemic chicken slices and fruit to highlight the unglamorous life he now faced as a refugee. “The point of that tweet was not… to be complaining, to be very critical,” Mr. Ahmadi told The Independent. “I was just describing a situation of Afghan refugees that are in the situation that they never really wanted to be in.”(Snip)The refugee enjoyed a good life in the Afghan capital Kabul, though his family has suffered tragedy.

Comments:

Sit tight, Hamed. Soon enough you'll be on the welfare rolls, obese and lovin' it just like the rest of our dependent population. The taxpayers will just have to tighten their belts a bit more is all; God Bless America.

Oregon's governor Kate Brown is being sued by a coalition of firefighters and police officers over her new mandate which will force them to have a COVID vaccine. The lawsuit was filed by the Oregon Fraternal Order of Police union, troopers across the state, and Kingsley Firefighters Association at Jefferson County Circuit Court Friday. They say the vaccine edict, announced in August, breaks existing Oregon laws, and that it makes no provision for people who seek religious exemptions to the rule.(Snip)Oregon State Trooper Zachary Cowing, 29, has already been placed on leave over a widely-shared video which saw him condemn Brown's ban as unconstitutional.

A Google survey of 1,500 U.S. adults released last week by Environmental Progress found Democrats were more likely than Republicans “to believe false information about basic aspects of climate science,” starting with the impact of natural disasters. The results found 42% of Democrats and 35% of Republicans agreed that “More people are dying of natural disasters,” even though such deaths have declined by more than 90% worldwide over the last century.

It takes the MTA up to 15 years to clean each of the subway’s 10,000 gunked-up drains, according to a report published Thursday by the agency’s inspector general. But a new system could streamline the process and help keep the city’s 418 miles of underground electrified subway track dry, the MTA says. “NYC Transit’s annual goal for track drain cleaning is currently 150,000 linear feet. However, with 418 miles of drains in the system, this figure represents only 7% of the total,” the report states. “[A]t that pace Infrastructure would require approximately 15 years to clean the entire system.”

At this time last year, the Wuhan coronavirus was claiming around 1,000 American lives per day. It seemed to me that, absent a sudden and sharp decline in that number, Joe Biden would be our next president. It must have seemed that way to Biden and his top advisers, as well. During presidential debates that occurred a little less than a year ago, Biden ripped Trump for his handling of the pandemic. The death count was the centerpiece of this attack. So what’s the daily death count now, more than seven months into the Biden administration and with a majority of Americans vaccinated?

It's not just that the FDA has put out a quackish tweet (shown here by AT contributor Dr. Brian Joondeph, M.D.) scolding viewers that they are not horses or cows. The news reports repeatedly call ivermectin a dangerous drug, implying that all uses of the drug are dangerous, even when taken properly.

Labor Day was once the nation’s most blatantly political national holiday — created by the trade-union movement to celebrate the right of working people to bargain collectively and to stage strikes to press their demands. But no more, for good reason.Even before Congress created the federal holiday in 1894, New York hosted the nation’s first Labor Day parade as 10,000 workers took off from their jobs to march from City Hall to Union Square. As the movement grew, so did the parades and celebrations. How times have changed. Today, Labor Day is largely an occasion for sales, end-of-summer cookouts and back-to-school preparations. Why?
