Pro sports teams in Texas refusing to play the national anthem will be making a very expensive decision.
According to Outkick, a new Texas law took effect September 1 that requires all pro sports teams to play the national anthem or repay any government money received. Seeing as how most pro sports arenas are at least publicly funded in part, teams that refuse to play the national anthem could be on the hook for an outrageous amount of money. For those of you who might not remember, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban tried to stop his team from playing the national anthem and his choice caused massive backlash.

Not surprising
Mark Cuban is a Marxist swine masquerading as a business entrepreneur.
Someday he will announce his entry into the 2024 Presidential race to get the desperate recognition his massive ego desires and expects.
Cuban has many trained monkeys within the MSM that salivate with desire when hearing his name.

Cool. Maybe at some point they'll turn their attention to the border, as Gov. Donothing claimed he'd do on starting on June 1.

Don’t you love this? However, let us not be distracted as #4 says. Our Governor Abbott and our lawmakers are strategically doing things right now that are meant to appeal to we conservatives and distract us. THE BORDER is Texas’ major issue. We are Ground Zero for the biggest national security threat now - the TX-MX border. Our politicians are all - from our Texas Senators and Congresspeople to the Governor wanting to discuss this as little as possible. We must not let it happen!

It's sad that our society has gotten so sickly PC that the legislature here felt they had to do this.
I hope this is always known as the "Mark Cuban Law", since it was his idiocy and evil that made it necessary!!!

Make them broadcast it on tv, stand up, and play it the traditional way. This is a minimal start. Make them pledge allegiance to the USA. Coerce them not to say anything political, do that on their time, not ours. Force them to keep their clown antics to themselves. They need coercion. The owners like that. So pass a law and put the police out there to collar them, if they don't comply.

This a very dangerous law. It's almost certainly a violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. This law requires all pro sports teams to play the national anthem or repay any government money received.
Almost everyone loves that the National Anthem is being played at sports events, but this Texas law is NOT "content neutral" (as it's limited to our National Anthem).
These pro teams have First Amendment free speech rights under the First Amendment. Probably every affected pro team will gladly play the National Anthem at these sports events, but none can lawfully be FORCED to do so by this statute.
This statute is dangerous because IF IT IS CONSTITUTIONAL Texas could in the future pass other statutes to mandate other content specific speech is mandatory, and it cannot be assumed that such other mandated speech would be popular. Our free speech rights cannot lawfully be based on the popularity of the speech, including the great popularity of our National Anthem.
Seem far-featced? Austin, Texas is ultra-liberal and in many respects many local governments in Texas are not conservative.
Not long ago a liberal local govermental entity in New York State tried to mandate (in the LGBTQ context) that employees in the workplace must speak using only specified gender pronouns including (among many others): "Xe, Xem, Xyre, zee, zem, zeres, Ze, Hirm, Hirs, Em, Eirs, ay, em, airs" etc.

Lawsuit written all over this law. Not a lawyer but 1st amendment issue seem apparent. If Texas wants to defund leftist pro teams, there are other ways to do it.

I don't think the Anthem should be played at sports events. It should be reserved for events where it will be respected. I don't support giving the left opportunities to take a crap on America.

Excellent.
Next time Mark Cuban pulls a stunt like that, he would pay.
Awesome.
I hope all states follow Texas's lead.
