Nearly half of the nation’s children aged 5 through 11 now qualify as either overweight or obese, according to results of a new study out Friday. Researchers from the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan found the proportion of U.S. children aged between 5 and 11 who were overweight or obese based on body mass index (BMI) rose from just more than 36 percent pre-pandemic to nearly 46 percent over the course of prolonged classroom closures. “School is essential,” said Dr. Tim Logemann of the Wausau Aspirus Hospital Cardiologist(Snip) “The obesity crisis is a crisis, it is the true pandemic,” Logemann told The Federalist.

Lock downs don't make you fat. Food does. So don't eat so much food.

A lot of them were overweight before the lockdown. School does not prevent obesity. Healthy eating and exercise do. We ran ourselves ragged as kids, loved it. Climbed trees, jumped fences, pumped our bikes madly up and down the streets (I have the scars to prove it). My hands always had blisters from the metal rings on the playground, my knees were always scabby, and I left a fair amount of the skin from my left thigh on our street when went off my bike. We never walked when we could run. Get them moving! Covid is not an excuse. (I have noticed that photos of fat kids usually include fat parents. Something to think about.)

To be honest, there were a lot of fatties before the lockdown. Don't claim victim status, just slow down the eating.

By adding weight on they are more susceptible to bad results from the virus. Sitting around inside is terrible for their immune systems. They need the sunshine to make Vitamin D, nitric oxide (helps the lungs function), and to manufacture more than several complex substances that are vital to immune health. OTOT they are being made to wear masks even outside - the whole thing makes me mad.

Sure, blame the lockdowns...don't blame the wheat they ingest in everything they eat that has been modified by scientists and now has a molecule that is as bad and addictive as any drug and makes them want more...suggest you read 'Wheat Belly' by William Davis, a cardiologist, for the real story behind wheat and it's nasty side effects...

I was seeing many little fat urchins before the attack on us by Covid-19. Don't let the obese mommas off the hook because they fed their little darlings junk. I see it in their grocery carts in the stores. You can't fool me fat and lazy was here long before Covid-19 and Delta showed up.

FTA: “Eat your vegetables, like your grandma says,” Logemann said. “It doesn’t have to be complicated… At the end of the day, just eat good, real food.” That, and run around outside instead of being locked indoors by your crazy, covid-fearing mothers.

Obesity has been the #1 health issue in kids for a couple of decades now. Covid has nothing to do with it. My childhood was very much like that of #2. I grew up in Florida and we kids rarely came inside except for lunch and dinner, and in the summer we were back outside playing after dinner until it got too dark to see and the mosquitos came out.

When we were in the thick of it, lockdown that is, I thought it would be the perfect time to slim down and get healthy. Publix was open and well stocked. All kinds of fresh healthy food could be purchased. Great time to use portion control and well balanced meals. This could have been a collaborative effort with the parents and kids. Then go out and take walks and exercise. Too many people got into the habit of unhealthy food being delivered.

Obesity is a major risk factor for those contracting COVID. Did you hear ONE public health official suggest that Americans lose weight during the past 18 months? BTW I noticed that in a few of the leaked photos from Obama's birthday party that Michelle has packed on a few pounds. Must be because she no longer has access to her organic White House garden!

Rep. Adam Kinzinger is likely to lose his House seat after Illinois Democrats redraw the state map for the post-2020 redistricting cycle, according to a Politico report on Wednesday. Kinzinger, who rose to prominence in the Trump era as a vocal critic of the former president, has represented Illinois' 16th Congressional District, which covers the exurbs of Chicago, since 2013. Democratic state lawmakers, who are in control of Illinois' redistricting map, are planning to remove Kinzinger's seat, sources familiar with the process told Politico. If that happens, Kinzinger may have to run for another office in the blue-leaning state should he choose to remain an elected official next year.

Sweeteners could kick the monthly payments up to $500 if they meet certain benchmarks, such as seeking a job or maintaining parole appointments.
