Democrats' $3.5 trillion spending package
in jeopardy, with Pelosi appearing
short on votes

Washington Democrats' efforts to pass their signature, $3.5 trillion spending package is in jeopardy of falling apart, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democrat-controlled chamber, does not appear to have the votes this week to advance the measure awaiting in the Senate. The votes are set to be cast Monday and Tuesday, with House members returning for two days during their August recess to try to move forward the pending package. Pelosi can afford to lose only three votes in the narrowly divided chamber.

Comments:

It's a nice thought to think this thing might die in the House, but these things typically have a way of working themselves out when wheelbarrows of cash are passed under the noses of the holdouts.

Sometimes, I almost think it would be worth it to pay the government the $100,000 for my share of the total debt if they would agree to forever leave me and my family alone.

I pray that no Rinos jump on board this train wreck. Democrats are set back on their heels because of the Afghanistan debacle. Give them no quarter. This bill is an abomination of spending for democrats special interests groups. Why fund these anti-American fools? They are destroying the country. Republicans hold the line and speak to your colleagues on the other side and set them straight regarding their future going forward if they sign off on this bill in the midst of their dear leader’s disastrous Afghanistan policy. There may be one or two semi-sane representatives on their side.

Pelosi is only buying time for a rules change in the House. Afghanistan is now a convenient distraction. The House Bill will go up for a single vote (adding to the Senate Bill). Remember Barry Care passage in 2010 orchestrated by Pelosi under reconciliation? Don’t underestimate her. By any means necessary.

The headline says the bill is in jeopardy, but the article states that nine moderate democrats simply want to see the that the 1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill is passed before they vote to approve the 3.5 trillion package that is described as a bipartisan bill that "includes money for the environment" and "safety net programs." A bipartisan bill with more handouts and global warming restrictions. God help us.

Sam Faddis, who served as the head of the Counter Terrorism Center's Weapons of Mass Destruction unit, said sources in the Pentagon, military officers in Kabul and other former intelligence agency officers have told him that flights for civilians out of the Afghan capital will actually end in the next three days. The alleged deadline has not been officially announced or verified, but raises fears that American citizens could be left behind in the Taliban-occupied city.

Facing the political fight of his life and sinking polls indicating he could lose in the Sept. 14 recall election, California Gov. Gavin Newsom is now plagued by rising concerns over alleged voter fraud after the Secretary of State's Office sent out mail ballots to 20 million voters. Earlier in the year, the state legislature passed a measure to send out mail ballots to every registered voter whether they asked for one or not. Newsom's opponents argue this was done as a way to protect him from losing, suggesting the only way he could win was through fraud.

The Democratic-led House on Tuesday authorized $3.5 trillion of spending in a party-line vote, as the national debt climbs to a record $29 trillion. The final vote was 220-212. Of the members voting, 96 lawmakers submitted proxy letters to allow them to cast their votes remotely under a system the House adopted at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Using budget reconciliation allowed Democrats to bypass the filibuster in the Senate and push through the $3.5 trillion resolution without votes from Republicans in the 50-50 Senate. Democrats adopted the same strategy to pass the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, which was the second largest stimulus bill in U.S. history.
