Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, must go.
President Biden claims that the military advised him to close Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and instead use Kabul’s airport to evacuate Americans. They were the ones who said the Afghan army would hold, that the pullout would go smoothly.
If Biden is telling the truth, this disaster is on Milley’s watch. Or Biden is lying (the more likely scenario, based on what sources inside the administration are saying) and Milley failed to do his duty and push back against a commander in chief who is making deadly decisions. Either way, he is derelict in his duty

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told top Pentagon leaders to prepare for a potential 'mass casualty event' 24 hours before a suicide bomb rocked the hurried U.S. evacuation at the Kabul airport, new internal DOD documents reveal. The documents, which the Pentagon condemned as a leak of classified information and urged the media not to report, detail top military officials trying to sort out security in a situation they already deemed a major risk.
(Snip)According to the report, during a separate call last Thursday, commanders spoke to a plan to close the Abbey Gate. However, U.S. forces kept it open in order despite misgivings to allow British allies

Jill Biden offered a reassuring message to parents and children on Monday, which is the first day of school for many kids across the nation. In an op-ed published by ABC News, the first lady, a school teacher, acknowledged the fears some may have returning to the classroom and said President Joe Biden is doing all he can to defeat the coronavirus pandemic.'Parents, I want you to know that your child, your school and your family are at the heart of all that my husband, Joe, is doing to help our country defeat and ultimately recover from this pandemic,' she wrote.

Big media has been in overdrive pushing COVID vaccinations, at least after Joe Biden was ensconced in the White House. (snip) Once there was a new occupant in the White House, the vaccine narrative flipped and the administration embraced the new vaccines as if Biden and Harris conceived of and developed them (snip) a survey... found a U-shaped curve with the greatest hesitancy among the least and most educated. “The most common concern for those who are hesitant to take the vaccine is potential side effects, with a lack of trust in government close behind in second."

MSNBC host Joy Reid stirred up controversy earlier this week when she compared Christian conservatives to the Taliban. But Reid is hardly the only public figure on the left making that analogy.Actor Tim Russ, best known for playing Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on the sci-fi series “Star Trek: Voyager” and Principal Franklin on Disney’s “iCarly,” tweeted Monday that, “The Taliban are as fanatical about their beliefs and culture as the millions of people right here in the U.S. who believe in religion, conspiracy theories, and alternate reality.”This isn’t the first time Russ has disparaged Americans of faith generally or Christians specifically.

There was some discussion on Twitter recently about whether President Joe Biden nodded off during an Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. After the talk spread, some journalists, like CNN factchecker Daniel Dale, pushed back. "This 'Biden asleep' stuff is nonsense ," Dale tweeted on Saturday. But here's the thing. Watch Biden's public appearance with Bennett on this C-Span video . The president appeared exhausted, just as he appeared exhausted a day earlier when he delivered remarks on the deaths of 13 American military men and women killed by a suicide bomber during

According to CNN, about half a million people were without power in the region.
On Saturday, state and federal officials worked to get evacuation orders signed and emergency declarations in order. Sporting events and casinos were closed or postponed for the weekend. Mississippi schools were announced closed for Monday.

The Pentagon said Monday the U.S. had completed efforts to evacuate its remaining civilians and troops from Afghanistan, effectively ending the longest war in American history.
“I’m here to announce the completion of our mission in Afghanistan,” Marine Corps General Kenneth McKenzie told reporters in a virtual briefing. "The last C-17 took off at 3:29 pm."
The departure of the last U.S. plane from Afghanistan capped a bloody and chaotic end to the conflict. In the war's final weeks, fighting and terror attacks amid the scramble to evacuate thousands of Americans and Afghans left 13 service members and hundreds of civilians dead.

A COVID-19 variant first detected in South Africa could be more infectious than other mutations – and may have the potential of being resistant to vaccines, according to a report.
The C.1.2 strain has been linked to “increased transmissibility” and is said to have mutated the most from the original virus, which first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the Mirror reported.(Snip)“We found a disproportionately higher rate of the South African variant among people vaccinated with a second dose, compared to the unvaccinated group,” said professor Adi Stern of Tel Aviv University
