AUSTIN, Texas — A standoff in Texas over new voting restrictions that gridlocked the state Capitol for 38 consecutive days ended Thursday when some Democrats who fled to Washington, D.C., dropped their holdout, paving the way for Republicans to resume pushing an elections overhaul.
It abruptly and messily drew to a close one of the few — and lengthiest — quorum breaks in modern Texas history. Instead of a unified and celebratory return by Democrats, some members fumed and lashed out at their colleagues over what they criticized as breaking ranks.

Now, show up at work, take your little vote, enjoy your futile gesture, and STxU.

Take the vote, and then arrest them anyway for their stunt.
At least large fines to get out of jail. They thought Gov. Abbott would fold like a wet card, but not this time!!! He knows he blew it with his over-reaction to the Covid garbage last year, and has been working overtime to earn back his conservative credentials. This is a great step in that direction.
But if this isn't dealt with harshly, it will happen again and again!!! They broke the law when they left, so just because they came back doesn't wipe out the fact that they broke the law and deserve punishment for that!!! Sic them, Gov. Abbott!!!

Arrest 'em. Every. Single. One. I wish it were a felony. If it causes each to have a criminal record, maybe they'll think twice about doing it again. They are an embarrassment.

Always at the end, AP interjects the “false claims”. Pitiful.

The arrests were just a threat, a ploy to get them to return, while they enjoyed a month long vacay. Taxpayers just keep getting played. By both sides.

Time to pass legislation that says that elected State of Texas representatives that abandon their jobs should be removed, and replaced immediately by write-in balloting. Nowhere but government do you get to quit and keep being paid.

The word "Democrat" is increasingly becoming toxic. In California Democrat politicians try not to use the term as much as they can. Newsom's "Let Them Eat Cake" episode at the $800 per plate restuarant sticks in the craw, as it were. of many lifelong Democrats. Even Blacks and Latinos were appalled.

They came back when they felt like it, were docked little pay I bet and their voters will probably not hold it against them. They and we knew Governor Abbott was blowing smoke and would never risk a photo op of arresting democrats upon their return to Texas.

Texas and any state the needs a quorum to pass bills need to pass laws making fleeing the state when a vote is pending a felony, punishable by jail time, loss of your seat and any pensions, healthcare and all that goes with be a state representative of the people.
