Exclusive: House GOP demands answers over
$87B in improper spending on entitlements

Original Article

House Oversight and Reform Committee Republicans sounded the alarm Tuesday about hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars that have been improperly spent on one of the government’s largest and fastest-growing entitlement programs. Rep. James Comer, the top Republican on the committee, sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees Medicare and Medicaid, demanding answers about “rampant [and] improper” Medicaid payments. Mr. Comer and the committee’s other Republicans are concerned that CMS’ own data shows that more than $57 billion was spent on improper Medicaid payments in fiscal 2019 and nearly $87 billion in fiscal 2020, accounting for one of every five Medicaid payments.

Comments:

Republicans reliably start making noise about fiscal responsibility when gearing up for campaign season, or when they're outnumbered so as to guarantee that nothing will be done.

Their investigations yield nothing of value. Are any ill-gotten gains returned? Are individual employees exposed and held firmly accountable? No and no. OP is right. Coming up on election season, we can always predict the playbook moves by the GOP. We have watched it for decades.

Sure seems to me our congress spends an inordinate amount of time, effort and tax dollars investigating each other for misdeeds, misuse of funds and outright criminal activities. Does any other corporate conglomerate get by with so much skullduggery among it's CEOs that it must spend half it's operating funds seeking out those criminals within their ranks? And wouldn't the guilty be fired on the spot? Why do we Americans put up with so much dirty deeds from our electeds who not only keep their jobs, foist the legal costs onto we, the invisible money-mills, but they go on to further enrich themselves as they shrug off any consequence for having done colossal wrongs. Nice work if you can get it!

“Improper payments “. Right. If I had to guess a number I would say probably 20% is padded bills plus outright fraud. In black areas there is ongoing fraud by crooked docs over-billing and simply submitting charges for non-existent procedures. Anything our government pays for is getting ripped off by a horde of cheaters, crooks taking advantage of the easy pickin’s in the US.

Nothing to see here, Republicans. All those payments went to a Dr. Hunter Biden, who practices medicine at the First National Bank in Wilmington, Delaware. We are looking into a 5% surcharge on each of his payments that went to a company called "The Big Guy Billing Company," as that may have been in error. The surcharge should have been 10%.

This is peanuts compared to COVID charity to hospitals, stimulus checks to people who didn't need them, unemployment prop-ups that keep deadbeats at home instead of working. Every dollar spent by this sham administration since January has been wasted and it is measured in the Trillions, not Billions. Come on, GOP, focus wide instead ot nit picking the small stuff.

The US Capitol was put in lockdown while police negotiated with a man in a pick-up truck demanding airstrikes in Afghanistan to 'kick the Taliban's a**' and asking to speak to Joe Biden on Thursday before surrendering to police after a five hour standoff. The man in the truck is believed to be 49-year-old Ray Roseberry from North Carolina. At 9.15am this morning, he drove his black pick-up truck onto the sidewalk outside the Library of Congress, opposite the Capitol building. Congress is in recess so no elected officials are there but there are staffers who are still working in the Capitol buildings.

President Biden said Wednesday he is requiring nursing homes to mandate COVID-19 vaccines for their workers as a condition of federal funding and scolded GOP governors who’ve overruled schools that want to impose mask mandates. Speaking from the White House, Mr. Biden said he instructed the Department of Health and Human Services to write regulations that tether reimbursement under the Medicaid and Medicare programs to required vaccinations for workers. He also told the Education Department to examine whether legal remedies are needed to let schools impose the COVID-19 rules they want to in states that have intervened. The nursing home policy will affect about 1.3 million people

The bishop has been subject to other Vatican investigations—including covering up reports of sexual abuse—and many in his diocese have petitioned for his removal since 2014. A federal religious liberty panel said Wednesday that North Korea‘s government “poses an acute challenge” to religious practice in the country, with an organized and intensifying campaign of harassment against an expanding array of faiths. “Violations of this right in North Korea are ongoing, egregious, and systematic, and they are perpetrated and overseen by the active mobilization of organs” of that government, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in the new report, which noted that pandemic-related border shutdowns have only increased the isolation of North Korea‘s still-surviving religious communities. While Christianity has long been the target of North Korean repression over the past 70 years,

The Taliban, who are desperately trying to present a moderate face after sweeping into power in Afghanistan, have blown up the statue of a Shiite militia leader who had fought against them during the civil war in the 1990s. When the Islamic militants seized power from rival warlords in 1996, they killed the militia leader, Abdul Ali Mazari—a champion of the country’s ethnic Hazara minority, Shiites who were persecuted under the Sunni Taliban’s earlier rule. The statue stood in the central Bamyan province, where the Taliban infamously blew up two huge 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha carved into a mountain in 2001, claiming they violated Islam’s prohibition on idolatry.
