Vancouver, WA — Nearly 50 years after skyjacker D.B. Cooper vanished out the back of a Boeing 727 into freezing Northwest rain — wearing a business suit, a parachute and a pack with $200,000 in cash — a crime historian is conducting a dig on the banks of the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington, in search of evidence. KOIN reports that Eric Ulis, a self-described expert on the infamous D.B. Cooper case, began a two-day dig on Friday. Ulis and four volunteers are searching for evidence about 10 to 15 yards away from where a boy found $6,000

Comments:

The FBI gave up the search in 2016. They had other business to attend to - it was an election year, remember?

My guess is he landed in the river and drowned. Besides the FBI searching the area, I have heard local residents in the remote area where he jumped have also combed the woodlands with no trace besides what the little boy found nearly a decade later.

The $6,000 cash is the only physical evidence found in 50 years. The FBI dropped the case in 2016. Can the Cooper case be any colder?

My gut feeling is that he died in the jump or shortly thereafter but who will ever know unless some new evidence turns up. Interesting story though. I recall lots of people thought it was a daring and swashbuckling act and actually rooted for Cooper.

Nearly two dozen Texas House Democrats who fled the state last month have sued Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republican officials, alleging that GOP efforts to bring them back to the state Capitol for a special legislative session infringed on their constitutional rights. The 22 plaintiffs have been "deprived of liberty for substantial periods of time, suffered much anxiety and distress over separation from their families, and much discomfort and embarrassment," the complaint filed late Friday alleges. Abbott, House Speaker Dade Phelan and State Rep. James White are all named as defendants in the case.
