The Pentagon is preparing for a possible evacuation of the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan amid fears that the Taliban may overrun the compound in the coming days, the New York Times reported Thursday.
As the militant organization makes significant gains, capturing ten provincial capitals across the country, the State Department is expected to reduce embassy staff and is considering relocating its outpost to the Kabul airport, a number of sources told CNN. Meanwhile, the Pentagon is moving marines into position to cover the evacuation of staff as intelligence reports suggest the Taliban may launch an assault within 30 days, the Times reported.

The Texas Senate voted to advance a major Republican voting bill on Thursday in an 18-11 vote, along party lines.
Senate Bill 1 passed after state Senator Carol Alvarado finished a 15-hour talking filibuster in an attempt to delay the vote. Filibuster rules prohibited Albarado from eating, sitting down, leaning on her desk, taking a bathroom break or speaking about subjects unrelated to the bill.
The all-night filibuster came one day after Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan, a Republican, signed arrest warrants for 52 Democrats who did not return during the fourth day of the House’s second special session. The Democrats’ absence left the chamber eight members short of a quorum.

Watching the media and viewing online forums, you’d assume the group of people with the most hesitancy to get the vaccine would be the uneducated or even conspiracy theorists who think they’re injecting 5G magnets into the arm so the government can track you.
You’ll be surprised to find that this isn’t the case.
While people with low levels of education are still high on the charts for refusing to get the vaccine, it’s the people with the highest education levels that comprise the largest group of those who are vaccine-hesitant.
According to a study by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburg,

Joe Biden held a virtual meeting on infrastructure today with some governors, mayors, and other officials to push his infrastructure plan.
Among the people in attendance was Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
But Biden appeared to get confused while addressing her at one point. Despite the fact that her picture was on the screen with her name in big, bold letters, Biden still referred to her as “Jennifer” as he thanked her for the work that “you’ve done and continue to do.” It appeared that Biden confused Whitmer with the former governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, who held that position from 2003-2011. But now she’s serving as Biden’s energy secretary.

Hollywood legend and noted Republican Clint Eastwood has sent a “message of support” to conservative talk radio host Larry Elder, who is running to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in the California recall election, Elder reported Tuesday. It was not clear whether Eastwood’s message constituted a formal endorsement.
Eastwood, who spoke at the 2012 Republican National Convention, has continued to make groundbreaking films into his nineties. Elder has emerged as the main contender in most polls, out of a field of more than 40 candidates vying to replace Newsom. Other leading candidates include Democrat Kevin Paffrath, a real estate investor and YouTuber; former

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) just released a statement this morning warning Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that he has “serious concerns” about the massive spending in the $3.5 trillion budget spending plan that the Democrats are trying to push through, particularly in light of the rising inflation and debt. The bill is basically a wishlist of every Democratic agenda item to help them hold onto power.
While Manchin voted yes on a procedural vote to move the bill forward because he wanted discussion on the fiscal policy, he said that he was not in favor of the bill as presently constructed because of the huge cost:

Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. diplomat who negotiated a withdrawal deal with the Taliban last year, is back in Doha, Qatar, desperately trying to cobble together some kind of face-saving agreement for the Afghan government that would allow them to leave the country alive.
The reason for Khalilzad’s haste is that the rate of collapse by the Afghan army has accelerated beyond anyone’s imaginings from just a couple of weeks ago. The Taliban took its 7th provincial capital on Tuesday and show absolutely no sign of slowing down their military offensive in order to negotiate a power-sharing deal with the Afghan government.
The Biden administration admits the situation is desperate.

The Senate approved the framework of a $3.5 trillion budget plan in a key procedural vote on Wednesday morning, allowing the body to move towards a final vote on the issue.
Senators voted to advance the framework 50-49 along party lines, with Senator Mike Rounds (R., S.D.) absent. The vote came just before 4 a.m. following a “vote-a-rama,” during which senators introduced amendments for largely symbolic votes designed to test the level of Senate support for various issues.
The plan provides for universal pre-kindergarten, free two-year community college, tax incentives for clean-energy sources to fight climate change, and an expansion of Medicare

In a stunning video released by Fox News Tuesday night, after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) resigned in disgrace, one of their reporters found CNN’s Chris Cuomo on vacation at a marina in East Hampton, New York. And according to Fox News, Cuomo seemed to threaten the reporter with arrest by state troopers, which his brother controls. Cuomo also refused to answer if he believed his brother’s accusers.
The video began with the unnamed reporter greeting Cuomo at the dock and asking him about his unethical counseling of his brother while also working for CNN. Cuomo refused to answer most of the reporter’s questions:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s rather confused masking advice is thinly supported by science. And by now, everyone who wants a COVID jab can get one. Yet elite shaming of ordinary people keeps ratcheting up. It’s, well, shameful.
Law professor Ann Althouse recently reproduced two memes she saw on Facebook. One read: “It took ‘click it or ticket’ to get people to wear a seatbelt. I wonder if ‘mask it or casket’ might work.” The other said: “It’s a face mask, not a Star of David or pink triangle, you whiny, privileged dolt. You’re not being shoved into a cattle car and taken to camp.

The CEOs of Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines say they are not requiring unvaccinated employees to receive the shot, breaking with United Airlines' mandate that workers get vaccinated by October 25 or face getting fired.
In an internal memo obtained by CNN, Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly said the airline will "continue to strongly encourage" that workers get vaccinated, but the airline's stance has not shifted.
"Obviously, I am very concerned about the latest Delta variant, and the effect on the health and Safety of our Employees and our operation, but nothing has changed," Kelly said.

In the past week, Democrat governors and other Democrat Party elected officials throughout the country have launched a coordinated effort to threaten Americans’ economic security by issuing hasty “do what we say or your job gets it” Covid diktats.
Democrats claimed these mandates were in the name of science to combat the virulent Delta variant — the latest of probably several versions — of Covid.
This, at a time when it looks as if there is precious little that can be done about the virus, save perhaps shots and precautions like one would take for a nasty version of the yearly flu.
