One-in-five Americans say they have lost friendships over disagreements on the Chinese coronavirus, a daily YouGov survey updated Friday found.
The daily question surveyed 5,219 U.S. adults on August 5 and asked, “Have you lost any friendships because of differences in opinion related to the COVID-19 pandemic?”
Twenty percent of respondents said they have, 68 percent said they have not, and 11 percent indicated they remain unsure.
When broken down by party lines, nearly one-quarter of Democrats, 24 percent, said they have lost friendships, compared to 15 percent of Republicans.

I lost more over the LGBTQ+? garbage, and Trump. I do feel a sense of loss, but when someone becomes toxic its best to let them go.

if people will break up a "friendship" over this stupid covid BS then, they weren't friends to begin with - better to have them out of your life than in it and making you unhappy - chances are the most prevalent violators of friendships are lib commies who aren't worth the powder to blow the to hell, anyway - good riddance.

Can't say this is true for me, but most of my friends are of the same approximate mindset on most things. I lost more friends over Trump than anything. That was their choice - not mine.

If you lose a friend over these issues, they were never your friend to begin with!

To confirm what #3 said, it starts early. My 14 y.o. niece came home from school (in CA) last week upset over what happened at lunch. She has her group of school friends who eat together, and the topic of conversation turned political. A new girl they invited into their group said that her family was conservative and supported Pres. Trump. The group turned on this girl and told her she wasn't welcome in their group anymore. My niece, whose parents voted for BiteMe by the way, stood up for the new girl and said she had a right to her opinions, and to express them. They then turned on my niece and said she was kicked out of the group too. It was upsetting to her because after being schooled at home last year due to CA's Covid19 lockdowns, and being 14, it is hard to be ostracized by your group.
We are all sending her letters of encouragement and support for standing up, doing the right thing, and being a leader, not a sheep. Hopefully, this was a learning experience that will lead her someday to being a Conservative.

If Bleau is referring to fakebook and tweeter friends, these aren't real friends. They are just names who may choose to click the "like" button or not.

Exactly what OP said. I suspect friendships were lost in 1861, before the Civil War also.
Commiecrats need societal friction to complete their endless plans.

Further, I have no friends, family or otherwise, with Democrats. You steal an election before my face, institute communism, we are not going to be eating cake together.

One Facebook friend had an elderly family member, with multiple health problems, test positive for COVID shortly before they died. Now this person loudly shouts her authoritative opinion on all things COVID.

Count me among those who have lost friends. We have had dear, dear friends since college days (well, I showed up later). At any rate, we have many years of friendship with this certain couple. We've traveled with them etc. Now they want nothing to do with us because we are not vaxxed.

You can't lose something you never had. I started purging my life during the Obama reign of terror long before this Covid flu silliness. I have no liberal friends to be rid of that includes family. I believe, at an older age, in zero tolerance which if they wish to apply it to me with a healthy Adios.

I'm not friends with people around whom I have to walk on eggshells. I've been slowly purging them out of my life. Sometimes it is politics, sometimes it is just general nuttiness. Whatever the reason, I'm better off without them.

Not surprising. Lots of people really, really buy the whole government line. Personally....I have a number of friends who are vaccinated. We just let it go at "we don't think we want to get the vaccination", and they do, too. Not going to harass them about them taking the shot, and they don't harass me about not taking it.

Covid - no. Politics - yes.
Next month my son is getting married. His single, opinionated, bernie-loving teacher-cousin will be attending.
His cousin from the other side of the family will be there also. They have never met. He's a successful patriotic, (non-racist) red-neck business owner.
It will be a fun event!
