Nearly two dozen Texas House Democrats who fled the state last month have sued Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republican officials, alleging that GOP efforts to bring them back to the state Capitol for a special legislative session infringed on their constitutional rights.
The 22 plaintiffs have been "deprived of liberty for substantial periods of time, suffered much anxiety and distress over separation from their families, and much discomfort and embarrassment," the complaint filed late Friday alleges.
Abbott, House Speaker Dade Phelan and State Rep. James White are all named as defendants in the case.

Unbelievable. Typical Democrat crybabies, blaming everyone else for their own bad behavior.

I'm assuming that only a Texas court would have jurisdiction. The Gov. should push for an early trial and arrest them when they show up in court.

#4 is right they have to come back to Texas to pursue the case. Offer to fly them back and then put them in cuffs.

The wanton hubris of these privileged deserters is beyond comprehension. Is there one federal judge that will declare the constituents of these MIAs are beng deprived of their state government representation by the acts of the juvenile nomads?

"Mommy, please send me my blankie, some crayons and maybe a service bunny rabbit I can cuddle. I need a safe place to recover from the PTSD that I am suffering from".
Are you kidding me? You do not have the right to go through life and never experience discomfort or embarrassment. Especially when you give away so much ammunition to be used against you. They all should resign their office and new elections should take place immediately. Pathetic, my name is a Texas State Representative. They have every right to feel embarrassed.

I read some of them were vacationing in Portugal. I saw them in DC drinking champagne and mingling with the DC Democrats. They flew to DC in a private jet. I assume they will come home the same way. Their paychecks continued. The fund raised off the incident. The Democrats have no grounds for this case.

You can sue anyone about anything. There is no connection required between 'filing a lawsuit' and anything happening of significance.
I doubt that this goes anywhere at all.

So does this mean every single defendant that jumps bail and leaves the jurisdiction and refuses to come back could also sue the county or state or even country from which they are fleeing due to their "discomfort and embarrassment?"
"Farce" doesn't even scratch the surface. I'd laugh if this was not grown up adult age humans, elected politicians even. As it is, they should be ASHAMED!! But they aren't, they know no shame.
These truculent, obstreperous preschoolers should have their bottoms thoroughly tanned and then be sent to bed with no supper!

Re. #12, I doubt that this goes anywhere at all.
Likely. Unless a countersuit is filed. And a significant individual one, at that. They MUST show up to defend it or face a default judgment. Now, push for the speedy trial.

These democrats are really stupid and complete morons. I have not stopped laughing with their law suit. I hope Abbott has the stomach to counter sue them for damages, costs, etc. Let's see who wins.

Always said Dems are nuts, but these 22 take the cake. They did it to themselves and are well deserving of jail time and more humiliation.

Only a dumb democrat would put words like this on paper then file a suit because they did this to themselves. Amazing stupidity we need to bring back dueling pistols or knife fights for politicians to settle differences not court rooms. Texas should be the first state to try.

The most ridiculous thing is that the top Democrat strategists are now helping form the messaging of this bunch. And this is the best they can do? This is foolish to anyone but these runaways. The beer must be getting awfully warm.

Maybe the Governor should say they can't come back? Like little kids they don't want to do what they are told and will return to fine them for dereliction of duty.

Are Texas Reps Jessica González and Julie Johnson suffering discomfort and embarrassment while sunning on the beaches of Portugal? Please advise.
