Texas Dems who fled state sue Gov. Abbott

Nearly two dozen Texas House Democrats who fled the state last month have sued Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republican officials, alleging that GOP efforts to bring them back to the state Capitol for a special legislative session infringed on their constitutional rights. The 22 plaintiffs have been "deprived of liberty for substantial periods of time, suffered much anxiety and distress over separation from their families, and much discomfort and embarrassment," the complaint filed late Friday alleges. Abbott, House Speaker Dade Phelan and State Rep. James White are all named as defendants in the case.

I'm assuming that only a Texas court would have jurisdiction. The Gov. should push for an early trial and arrest them when they show up in court.

"Mommy, please send me my blankie, some crayons and maybe a service bunny rabbit I can cuddle. I need a safe place to recover from the PTSD that I am suffering from". Are you kidding me? You do not have the right to go through life and never experience discomfort or embarrassment. Especially when you give away so much ammunition to be used against you. They all should resign their office and new elections should take place immediately. Pathetic, my name is a Texas State Representative. They have every right to feel embarrassed.

I read some of them were vacationing in Portugal. I saw them in DC drinking champagne and mingling with the DC Democrats. They flew to DC in a private jet. I assume they will come home the same way. Their paychecks continued. The fund raised off the incident. The Democrats have no grounds for this case.

So does this mean every single defendant that jumps bail and leaves the jurisdiction and refuses to come back could also sue the county or state or even country from which they are fleeing due to their "discomfort and embarrassment?" "Farce" doesn't even scratch the surface. I'd laugh if this was not grown up adult age humans, elected politicians even. As it is, they should be ASHAMED!! But they aren't, they know no shame. In just five years, the percentage of Republicans with at least some trust in national news organizations has been cut in half – dropping from 70% in 2016 to 35% this year. This decline is fueling the continued widening of the partisan gap in trust of the media. Nearly eight-in-ten Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (78%) say they have “a lot” or “some” trust in the information that comes from national news organizations – 43 percentage points higher than Republicans and Republican leaners (35%) – according to a new Pew Research Center survey conducted June 14-27, 2021.

President Joe Biden received praise from an unlikely source on Tuesday: Ann Coulter. Biden had just concluded his address to the nation on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, ending a war that had lasted 20 years. The president has been criticized for failing to anticipate the rapid crumbling of Afghan security forces in the face of the Taliban’s advance. That caused a chaotic scene at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, where the U.S. military hurried to evacuate more than 123,000 Americans and Afghans despite being surrounded by the Taliban and ISIS-K.

I ask this question for two reasons: I have seen enough videos and read about enough officer-civilian interactions to know that the act of subduing a lethal threat requires several rounds. If an intruder entered my home and threatened my wife and child, I would shoot until I was able to ensure the target was immobilized. As to the first statement, there are plenty of examples of police officers firing multiple shots at a suspected threat.
