Apple announced Thursday is it planning to scan all iPhones in the United States for child abuse imagery, raising alarm among security experts who said the plan could allow the firm to surveil tens of millions of personal devices for unrelated reasons.
(snip) the company confirmed reports saying that new scanning technology is part of a suite of child protection programs that would “evolve and expand.” It will be rolled out as part of iOS 15, which is scheduled for release sometime in August.
(snip) appeared to try and preempt privacy concerns by saying that the software will enhance those protections by avoiding the need to carry out widespread image

Apple’s technology is explained in the article. There are also several quotes from those who believe this is a very bad idea, and who fear what could happen if this technology fell into the hands of an authoritarian government.

When they discover that about half of the Congress, the FBI, the CIA, the IRS, judges, etc. have their names showing up in the data bank, that will put an end to this intrusion.

Not only is Apple totally full of proprietary garbage software, it is now officially "Big Brother".
Don't get me wrong, every major platform out there spies on us. But Google and Apple seem to be in a contest for who can be the most smug and holier-than-thou about why they do it!!!

All intercepted photos of your smiling naked baby on a bear skin rug will be forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement authority as evidence for your arrest and prosecution/persecution.

What's to stop them from adding content to the phone and claim it was there before? A good way to compromise political enemies.

Mind you, this is the same Apple that REFUSED to let the FBI into the phone of known terrorists who killed 14 people in San Bernardino citing "privacy concerns." What further proof do we need that Apple, Google, Facebook, et al, are enemies of the American people?

This may be the worst and most dangerous idea yet. As #4 and 5 post....pictures of your grandchildren in diapers would trigger an alert and pics could be put on your phone to compromise you. Anybody that disagrees with the government could have porn embedded on their iPhone and their lives ruined. You can bet that the Deep State is salivating over the prospect of something like this.

They really do believe they are the boss of us.
Not in favor of child porn of course but I am not prepared to cede my privacy to Apple.

You should refer to your "smart phone" as your government tracking and spying device.

Best to get a burner phone, a no-contract inexpensive smart phone or even revert to a flipper. Flip-phones are harder to hack. Avoid apple products.

Good catch, #6. There is no lack of proof but only a lack of the will of a people who are more likely to give up their freedoms than their iPhones and social media.

Since when has Apple or anyone else in Tech been concerned with child abuse? This is the foot in the door, pure and simple, just as "terrorism" was.

Make sure you replace all the photos on your iPhone with images of Joe Biden (Captain Obvious) sniffing girl’s hair and putting his hands where they don’t belong.

That was supposed to be “Captain Oblivious”. As in oblivious to everything in the room except little girls and pandering targets.

The article says the scan will be for previously-known images, so your naked baby pictures should be safe. That said, this is quite disturbing. Who is to say what else they will search for? MAGA logos probably next on their list.

Child abuse red flags:
- MAGA hat
- photos at Trump rally
- photos containing American flags
- any photo taken in the state of FL or TX excluding Tallahassee and Austin)
Off limits to Apple:
- muslim terrorist training videos
- photos taken at NAMBLA meetings
- photos of destruction of historical monuments
- photos of fake hate crimes (containing nooses, swastikas, or rainbows)
Apple didn’t mention that Safari sends all your browsing history to iCloud. It’s trivial for them to know who visits sites like Lucianne.com or Bretibart.com. With the Tech oligarchs being an arm of the dimocrat party, its easy to imagine how this can be applied for nefarious means against you and me.

They will be especially searching for any "Trump for President" texts or any comments supporting horrible things like the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or other 'extremist views'.
They really believe that anyone with those views are dangerous extremists, and must be, at least, stopped from communicating, and what will be the next step?

I only use the BRAVE browser. I probably won't upgrade to this version! I don't want stuff added to my phone and have the cops show up at my door! Totally doable!

If they can scan it, they can plant it, too. Think TPTB would plant 'evidence' on someone they really wanted to get rid off? FBI, anyone?
