One creative Sunnyside 17-year-old rolled out an eye-catching colorful folkloric-inspired dress for prom this year—made entirely out of duct tape. The festive endeavor by Larissa Leon showcased her heritage, portraying the beauty of Chiapas couture, and won the $10,000 Grand Prize in the “Stuck at Prom” scholarship contest held by Duck Brand. “I wanted to make something more meaningful than just a dress,” Larissa told The Epoch Times. “I wanted the dress to represent a part of me. I wanted to showcase the beauty of my culture.”

I don't really impress all that easily any more, but this really impressed me. Sadly, so many teenagers today are so lazy and entitled, that to see a young lady work this hard with this much talent on something so traditional and beautiful, I'm glad to see her rewarded for her efforts!!!

Nice story. Good to see her effort rewarded. I notice that the term 'duct' tape is used. I think Duck Tape, the sponor of the contest, markets the tape for painting. i.e. masking. Could be wrong, why quibble? 'duct' is commonly used when 'masking' is what it will be used for.

It was always duct tape because it was used to tape ducts. Our basement is full of furnace ducts, the insulation for which was taped together at joints with….duct take. We also used it in another life to patch broken fibreglass bodied race cars together. Emergency repairs at the race venues where they got broken. Duck Tape is a brand name. It is also used by those who can’t seem to pronounce a t after a c. Or never heard of duct tape. It is not masking tape, which is removable. What astonishes me is how she could cut all those intricate shapes. No matter what implement is used, duct tape really gums it up...

#11, I always called it 100-miler-per-hour tape. #12, I was trying to figure out how she got the draping of the black background like that. Looks like she aligned the strips of tape on the diagonal. Definitely somebody with talent.

While the product remains authorized for treating confirmed COVID-19 patients over age 12 who are at high risk of severe illness, the agency said the drug combo can now be given to high-risk groups as a measure
