Chief DC federal judge questions misdemeanor deals for US Capitol rioters

Original Article

The chief judge in DC's federal court questioned the Justice Department's decision to offer misdemeanor plea deals to nonviolent US Capitol rioters, saying at a hearing Thursday that the relatively light punishment might not be enough to deter similar attacks in the future. "Does the government have any concern ... of the defendant joining a mob, breaking into the Capitol building" in the future, and "terrorizing members of Congress, the vice president, who had to be evacuated," Chief Judge Beryl Howell asked prosecutors during the plea hearing.

Comments:

The Judge is concerned light sentences will lead to further instances like this. So funny because when others are released for felonies, peaceful protests, assault, looting, arson the left is not concerned that this might lead to more of the same, rediculous!

Kinda reminds me of the line in Mel Brooks' History of the World Part I, when Count deMonet (Count de Money, played by Harvey Korman) said to King Louis (played by Mel Brooks), "Sire, the peasants are revolting." Mel's answer "Tell me about it, they stink on ice." Which is about the attitude of the DC deep state towards their what they want to be loyal subjects under their benevolent rule. Vive la résistance!

How can we stop nonviolent people from overthrowing the government? Perhaps we need to suspend freedom until the “all clear.” I’m a judge and I’m worried that Trump is planning a comeback. Is that code for a military coup? I have to be very very thought in my plans to totally crush these defendants.

An honest Prosecutor would have responded, "No, your Honor. We are not concerned in the slightest. If we were not being pressured, we would not have charged 95% of these defendants. Also, none should have been incarcerated."

"The charge is a "petty offense," Howell said, comparing it to the same charge someone might face if they trespassed on government property after dark." Yet THIS was in the bright light of Day, at "The Peoples House". The constitutionally designated location for the "People" to assemble and petition for redress of Grievance. Hence, every indication that it is "Overcharging" for the offense. "Does the government have any concern ... of the defendant joining a mob, breaking into the Capitol building" in the future, and "terrorizing members of Congress, the vice president, who had to be evacuated," No, Zero, None...it had never happened before, so no indication that it would be likely to happen again. What is THIS judges commentary about the Code Pink "protests" that regularly occurred in Both Houses, the White House...often with the SAME instigators...over and over. With no penalties and "guest passes" continuing to be issued by congress members to foster it?

Where is this Judges commentary of the hundreds that rioted in DC last May/June, where the VA building was trashed, burned, hundreds of cops injured, dozens killed, churches burned, hundreds of stores/businesses looted, dozens of police vehicles destroyed, even more civilian vehicles destroyed? The Whitehouse locked down, Trump hurried to the Bunker, Senate, House, Supreme court all closed, nearly all Govt offices closed, roads highways, transit systems shut down..... Has their been "Undercharging" in her courts for those?

Nothing like impartial justice. Most of these people should be released immediately without charges. Their crime--entering the Capitol at the encouragement of Capitol Police. Entering a place with the consent of those with apparent authority to authorize entrance should not be a crime.

One of the most obvious misconceptions about liberals today is that they personify tolerance. The Oxford English Dictionary defines tolerance as "the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with. A recent poll by the Survey Center on American Life at the American Enterprise Institute found that Democrats are twice as likely as Republicans to report ending a friendship over a political disagreement (20% versus 10%). Liberals are also "far more likely than conservatives are to say they are no longer friends with someone due to political differences" (28% versus 10%).

The Delta variant is much more contagious, more likely to break through protections afforded by the vaccines and may cause more severe disease than all other known versions of the virus, according to an internal presentation circulated within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the director of the agency, acknowledged on Tuesday that vaccinated people with so-called breakthrough infections of the Delta variant carry just as much virus in the nose and throat as unvaccinated people, and may spread it just as readily, if less often.

McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas could become Harry Reid International as soon as September, a Clark County official said today. The county could conduct a ceremony and put up a new sign this fall to mark the renaming of the airport for the former longtime U.S. senator from Nevada, said Commissioner Tick Segerblom, a leading advocate for the renaming. The County Commission unanimously voted in February to rename the county-owned and operated airport for Democrat Reid, a Searchlight native who spent more than 30 years in Washington, mostly as a senator but also as a U.S. representative. He was Senate majority leader from 2007 to 2015.

A new coronavirus variant that originated in Colombia has been detected in South Florida. Variant B.1.621 has yet to receive a Greek letter designation from the World Health Organization (WHO), but it is starting to make an impact in Miami. Carlos Miyoga, CEO of Jackson Health System in Miami, told Local 10 that the strain accounts for around 10 percent of cases in the area. Health experts suspect that constant travel between Miami and Colombia caused the variant to travel in the state and are urging residents to get vaccinated. The variant was first discovered in January in the Colombia, where, at its peak in late June,
