Texas Gov. Abbott: No More Masks — ‘Now

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has reacted to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation that, among other things, vaccinated people should still wear masks in high-infection areas by reaffirming no mask mandates will be in place in the state. “The time for government mask mandates is over—now is the time for personal responsibility,” Abbott posted on Twitter on Tuesday. “In May, I signed an executive order prohibiting mask mandates by gov’t entities.” “Every Texan has the right to choose whether they will wear a mask or have their children wear masks,” Abbott tweeted.

Gov. Abbott blew it last year in the over-reaction that all levels of government did. And he knows it. Unlike most other government agencies that loved the control they had over the peasant masses, Gov. Abbott is seriously showing that he learned his lesson last time. This is not the time for despot dictator-wanna-be's like the mayor of Austin to try to push him. He will push back with every bit of power he has a governor!!!!

Appreciate the repetition and emphasis of this policy in Texas. I will not vote for anyone mandating a mask, not even Trump. I will avoid any business that I can that requires a mask. I will not watch and will call for anti-trust, or any other action against anyone that is woke, or has engaged in censorship. I support retribution, and hope it comes, hard and fast.

Yes #1 and he has seriously pivoted to the right because he is seriously worried about reelection. He knows he can’t keep making empty threats and then backing down. This was a predictable decision but I do not care. I just want him to use all the levers of power at his disposal to stand up daily for Texas! I join others in praying we will see a strong feisty and fearless Abbott in the coming days!

I can't fault Abbott all that much in the beginning of the Covid mess - no one knew much of anything on "the science" and didn't yet quite comprehend that Fauci wasn't a reliable source of information. And in the beginning we were initially told "15 days so things will flatten" and then a slow progressiveness of shutdown took place. DeSantis was the was the only one in a highly populated state that first caught on to things not being completely honest from our "betters who follow the science" in DC. A lot of people were taken in by those shysters.

The Walt Disney Company clapped back at “Black Widow” star Scarlett Johansson, slamming the actress’ breach of contract lawsuit for showing “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.” In a court filing on Thursday, Johansson said Disney’s decision to send the Marvel movie to Disney Plus at the same time it was released in theaters cost her millions of dollars in backend compensation. Those bonuses were tied to hitting box office benchmarks that “Black Widow” likely won’t achieve. Disney is countering that it complied with the terms of Johansson’s deal to star in the Avengers spinoff film. “There is no merit whatsoever

President Biden announced Thursday that he has instructed military officials to craft a plan for making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory for service personnel. The news comes as Biden also announced that all federal employees will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or face weekly or twice weekly testing as well as mask mandates and distancing rules in the workplace. “After months and months of cases going down, we’re seeing a spike in COVID cases,” Biden said in remarks at the White House. “Why? Because of this new form, this new variant called the delta variant.” The new rules for federal employees will affect more than 4 million Americans.

You’ve undoubtedly heard the term “toxic fandom” at some point in your internet travels, and if you’ve expressed a negative opinion on any recent entries into a franchise, you’ve likely been accused of being in one. What is a toxic fandom? In a word; fantasy. It’s the idea that your disliking the latest Star Wars entries have more to do with the fact that your fanboy/girl nature makes you overprotective of the brand and that any change is going to cause you to foam at the mouth and complain, boycott, or worse, personally attack actors and creators. Oh, and you’re likely sexist, racist, or homophobic to boot.

A little over a week ago my colleague Charlie Martin noted that the Democrat legislators who abandoned their jobs in Texas and flew on a posh private jet to Washington may have created a COVID super-spreader event. Of course, this started with them running pictures of flying out of Texas on chartered planes, maskless and with a case of cheap beer — they took Miller Light; if they were going to take cheap beer, why not Lone Star, “the National Beer of Texas”? — and then taking a moment to “revise and correct” the evidence by replacing the picture with one that didn’t show the beer. Choice of beer aside

The current re-masking of America is driven by hysteria over the Indian variant of covid (renamed the Delta variant when it occurred to liberals that if “China virus” is racist, “Indian variant” must be racist too). It is entirely foreseeable that viruses will mutate, usually to a less lethal form, since it is bad for the virus to kill you. That is what is happening with the Indian form of covid. A few simple charts, courtesy of the CDC, tell the story. “Cases,” many of which are false positives, are rising rather sharply: But deaths are not: The tally of “covid deaths” is inflated, since doctors write “covid”

Throughout the “back the blue” craze of the Trump era, one thing became abundantly clear that largely quelled it — police follow orders. That includes orders that are patently absurd and violate the basic freedoms of individuals. Yes, law enforcement officers generally do good work and are to be respected for that, but if you are expecting them to stand up to their authorities to protect the rights of individuals, they are almost always going to disappoint you. Take that revelation and do with it what you will. Another example of that has emerged within the Capitol of the United States. Nancy Pelosi has ordered

I’ve said it before, but once again for emphasis: If you have school-aged kids and you live in a blue state, you’re courting disaster by not moving before the fall semester. Which is now only a month or so away. It shouldn’t be a question at this point that schools will reopen come hell or high water. The American Academy of Pediatrics has endorsed it, the CDC has endorsed it, even AFT President Randi Weingarten has endorsed it — conditionally, depending on whether enough precautions are taken to keep teachers (and students, but mostly teachers) safe. Well, all people aged 12 and up are eligible

Indeed it doesn’t, and in more ways than former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb lays out here. Gottlieb tells CNBC’s Squawk Box that the new guidance doesn’t appear based on any real evidentiary shift, and is also doomed to failure anyway. Masks will have a “negligible impact” on the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, and the emphasis should really be elsewhere: Gottlieb, who said that he expects the surge in coronavirus cases from the Delta variant to dissipate in two to three weeks, noted that vaccinated people “just need to be mindful” that they can still transmit

Quite frankly, the Democrats’ flip-flops when it comes to the Wuhan coronavirus are just out of control. Here’s Joe Biden in May explaining to us that it’s “vaxed or masked” “Folks, if you’re fully vaccinated — you no longer need to wear a mask,” Biden said. The Biden team then basically celebrated on July 4th as though they’d beaten the pandemic in a “Mission Accomplished” kind of a way, with a party of 1000 people who weren’t masked. But now, they’re pushing that even if you are fully vaccinated, you need to be masked in areas where the Delta variant is high or substantial.

Begin with one simple fact: The Delta variant of COVID-19 is more contagious than the original virus, but it is not more dangerous or likely to kill you. If you are vaccinated and are exposed to it, you may get infected. This infection is likely to be mild; occasionally vaccinated people get sick. These symptoms are usually mild, manageable, and pass within a day or two. The first case of the Delta variant — previously referred to as “the Indian variant” — in the U.S. was diagnosed at the end of March. Our active COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths have declined since that date, although the daily number

Sen. On Wednesday, Sinema announced that she opposes a $3.5 trillion budget — which includes an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens — and thus the Senate Democrats do not have the 50 votes necessary to pass the spending package. Democrats, for months, had hoped to slip the amnesty past Congress without facing opposition from Senate Republicans

Perhaps it’s because I grew up surrounded by extraordinarily tough people, but I found myself singularly unmoved by the spectacle in the House on Tuesday, which reminded me of a bad mash-up of Dr. Phil, Oprah, and BLM-produced soap opera, rather than a legitimate inquiry into an event that Democrats have seized upon to consolidate their power by destroying their opposition. As sobbing congressmen and Capitol Police officers took turns talking about their psychic injuries, I was alternately embarrassed for them if they were really that weak, and frightened of them if they were that sociopathic as a pathway to power.
