Police say a Menards employee was killed Thursday morning after an accident at the store in Golden Valley.
Officers say it appears the worker was using a forklift when a pallet of lumber fell on top of the forklift, killing the man. (snip) Joined by other family members and friends, Stanback's older sister, Mystaya, carried a picture of her brother into the store on Thursday afternoon, demanding that it close for the rest of the day.
"He was an employee here. I felt like y'all should have shut the store down and let the family come up here...Y'all should be sad, too," said Stanback. (snip) "..y'all didn't value him," said Stanback.
I knew the second I read 'disrespect'.
Menards caves in the hope that they won't be sued, but no way one of these grifters misses an opportunity at a ghetto lottery payout. And, you just tacitly admitted culpability by giving in.
Accidents happen. Or is it just that pallets of lumber are racist?

#1 nailed it. "Disrespect." The favored verb of professional victims. Formerly, used only by the American mafia. Now adopted by BLM, also for the purposes of extortion.

I think i would have closed the store spontaneously. I don’t think I understand the decision to keep it open after a death on the premises.

The family is royally disappointed that junior was killed by an accident of falling lumber. If he had been killed by a white cop while in the course of committing a crime, they'd have a multi-million dollar payday.

I'd give Mystaya all the respect she wants. Close the store. Move the inventory elsewhere.

Years ago I was at Michigan International Speedway watching an openwheel race when Adrian Fernandez hit the wall on turn 4 causing the front suspension to fly off into the stands killing 2 people 20 feet from me. They cleared that area of the grandstands, covered up the 2 men with a tarp and finished the race. I understand why the family is upset, however Menards needs to understand what happened and prevent it from happening again, as I'm sure they will. Bad things happen, we just need to learn from them.

Dude dropped the pallet on himself...he was the one running the lift. Prolly had it in Rabbit, when it should have been in Turtle.

How sad. Kid was working and not being a bum. New employee? Here’s hoping he got forklift safety training before using it. If not, menards will get a big lesson in osha compliance.

Frankly, if I were Menards, I'd fire that store manager for not closing the store following this accident. Did they direct the ambulance to the back entrance to not draw attention? Menards has a reputation as a good employer, good for the community, and is a family operation. The company deserves better judgement than that store manager or assistant demonstrated.
And a worker is killed in an accident. I don't understand anyone discounting this worker's life. Talk about "disrespect". He was working...more than many others in our society can say these days.

I’d be in mourning and not worrying about the store at all. Attorneys cattle call.

FWIW...the back lot at Menards is a commercial/contractor area(mostly) not public. It is fenced, gated, security at the gate. If you do not have a loading ticket, you do not get in. If what you have loaded does not match the ticket you do not get out. He was not inside the store. On Jan 6th a "person died", should all of Congress been shutdown over night, the family allowed to 'Come up in here' or else "They just do not Respect People, Do not Value people"? Check your answer for Consistency

#14 - Sort of stretching it, aren't you. The fact is that there was an accidental death of an employee on the premises. Menards could afford to shut the store down for the day. Think the staff there wasn't affected? The manager was wrong, in my opinion, to remain open. I suspect John Menard, with a high reputation as a decent man, would agree. This is more than a clean up in aisle 56.
As far as Congress goes, like it or not, leadership had a political point to make on January 6th - that an "insurrection" would not shut it down. For that matter, Congress met on 9/11. Was that callous? Such a comparison hardly applies to Menards.

The article is missing a lot of information. Forklifts have for years had mandatory overhead guards and seatbelts. Additionally, OSHA mandates forklift operator training.
