A federal judge blocked a West Virginia law banning transgender athletes from competing in girls sports, saying the legislation likely runs afoul of the Constitution. Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, a Clinton appointee, said if West Virginia wants to treat people differently, there must be a compelling reason to do so. “I have been provided with scant evidence that this law addresses any problem at all, let alone an important problem,” the judge wrote in a 15-page opinion. West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice, a Republican, signed the Save Women’s Sports bill in April. The legislation requires the state’s public schools to allow biological females only to compete in girls sports.

Amazon is tired of ringing doorbells. The online shopping giant is pushing landlords around the country—sometimes with financial incentives—to give its drivers the ability to unlock apartment-building doors themselves with a mobile device. The service, dubbed Key for Business, is pitched as a way to cut down on stolen packages by making it easy to leave them in lobbies and not outside. Amazon benefits because it enables delivery workers to make their rounds faster.(Snip) But the Amazon program, first announced in 2018, may stir security and privacy concerns as it gains traction. The company said that it does background checks on delivery people

The Biden Justice Department is deploying gun trafficking “strike forces” to Washington and four other major cities this week, part of a push to contain a recent national surge in violent crime. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland will visit Chicago Thursday afternoon to launch the strike forces, which will also be set up in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The units will share information and coordinate the prosecution of gun crimes across multiple jurisdictions. They are part of President Biden’s Violent Crime Reduction Initiative announced last month in response to an uptick in violent crimes across the country, particularly shootings and homicides.

RWJBarnabas Health, one of the largest health care systems in the Garden State and in the nation, announced in May that it was mandating COVID-19 vaccination for all staff at the supervisory level and above, effective immediately. Those employees were required to have completed their course of vaccinations no later than June 30. In a statement obtained by ABC News on Monday, RWJBarnabas Health revealed that "the vast majority of our management team has been vaccinated against COVID-19."

Restaurant owners are lashing out at President Biden for telling them they have to raise wages in order to attract staff, a move they say will drive inflation, put them out of business and shows how little he understands about the country's labor crisis.(Snip)John Stratidis, the manager of The Famous Cozy Soup 'n' Burger in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, told DailyMail.com on Thursday that raising wages would punish consumers and eventually put people off dining out. 'When minimum wage goes up, who do you think is going to pay for that? The customer. Everything is going to go up just to be able to stay in business.

Rep. Ilhan Omar is leading House lawmakers demanding the Biden administration create a special envoy to combat Islamophobia, citing a rise in anti-Muslim incidents across the globe. In a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the lawmakers said the U.S. must take the lead in combatting the phenomenon. “As part of our commitment to international religious freedom and human rights, we must recognize Islamophobia as a pattern that is repeating in nearly every corner of the globe,” the lawmakers wrote. Ms. Omar, a Muslim and a member of the “Squad” of young far-left Congress members, was joined by Jan Schakowsky, a Jewish Illinois Democrat, to spearhead

Back when Arizona Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly ran for office in 2020, a black and white photograph surfaced of someone in a Nazi uniform, taken from a yearbook dating from the time the former astronaut attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The costumed Nazi was Mr. Kelly, dressed “as Hitler,” said the National File, a right-wing online publication that also broke the story about another controversial photograph, one from Virginia Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook showing two men, one dressed as a Ku Klux Klansman and the other in blackface. Mr. Northam first acknowledged he was one of the men in racist garb, then denied it.
