Fairfax Co. task force to suggest
new names for Lee Highway, Lee
Jackson Memorial Highway

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors formed a task force to suggest new names for U.S. Route 29/Lee Highway and U.S. Route 50/Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, as many Virginia communities scrutinize schools, monuments and other places recognizing Confederate figures. The 30-member Confederate Names Task Force is expected to meet monthly starting this August, and will host voices from residents, homeowner associations, local businesses, faith leaders and historic groups.(Snip) “We cannot ignore what the Lee and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway names represent in our community and especially to our African American neighbors,” Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay said.

Comments:

Fairfax County is named after Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron, who owned hundreds of bLACK Slaves stolen from their ancestral homelands and set to toil on his 30 plantations there. The Fairfax likewise causes howls of anguish to rise from The Community; why not rename it Floydfax?

Also, some of New America's most deeply patriotic agencies are located in Fairfax County, which itself is filled with leftist transplants making a fat living working or contracting for Big Government. The mere 9% of the county population that's black is probably too busy making a fortune at the government trough to care about names.

I have fond memories of two teachers from when I attended school in Fairfax county in the 60s. I learned Latin and had a really great Earth Science class, which included astronomy, and grinding a telescope mirror. Amazing what extremely precise optical surfaces you can create with low tech tools. But clearly, the leftist crazy America haters have taken over the place and turned it topsy turvy. I met a neighbor in Colorado recently, they had moved from DC area, worked for beltway bandits for her whole career. She freaked out when I didn't buy her 'the sky is falling' MMGW stories. Screeched and yelled when I said "So what? The weather varies a lot." to some weather she was convinced proved it all. Her much more reasonable husband and I had a nice chat later that day and a couple of days later. He apologized for his wife. It's pretty clear that most of the folks who work in DC are pretty much looney lefties, and they are now (sadly) spreading out across the country. I felt sorry for her granddaughter who was present for her nuttiness, but.....the poor kid probably buys the whole line of baloney, too, sad to say.

Here in San Diego there's a grass-roots movement among local citizens and alumni against what they claim was the unlawful renaming of Serra High School by the school board a few months ago. The sudden argument against Father Serra is that he was responsible for thousands of indigent peoples' deaths while establishing the California missions. And, of course, the separation-of-church-and-state crowd has joined the fray in support of the name change. This will be interesting, as there are quite a few Serra High Schools around the state - including Tom Brady's alma mater in San Mateo.

Route 29 leading to Charlottesville Va. is loaded with Civil War history. There are placards up and down that highway that are locations of Civil War battles or at least some historical events that took place along this highway. Route 50 is the same way. It leads into the mountains where Stonewall Jackson would move his army between the ridges shielding his movements from Union troops. Both highways are named Lee and Jackson for reason. This is not only U.S. history, but Virginia history. Now however, because of federal government expansion from D.C. government, federal employees are encroaching on these areas for housing and it's turning into leftist land.

General Lee owned a few slaves who came to him through marriage; they were from his wife's family and something in the will made it so they could not be set free until some period of time. Lee personally was opposed to slavery. General Jackson owned 6 slaves; half of them belonged to his wife, and the rest asked to be purchased by Jackson so he could later set them free. Jackson was an early educator of black people, dating back to when it was illegal to do so, teaching one to read when he was a boy, then later setting up schools for them.
