White House urges cities to use
COVID funds to fight crime

The White House issued a memo to state and local officials across the country Monday urging them to use some of the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package to combat crime as violence continues to soar in America’s cities. The memo details how states and municipalities can use the relief funds to boost law enforcement, invest in community policing, enforce gun laws and assist recently released offenders reenter the community. White House officials highlighted in the memo that some cities that have used the COVID funds for crime reduction, including Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Albuquerque, Kansas City and Syracuse.(Snip) All are Democrats.

Comments:

Democrat mayors agree that the rest of the USA should pay for basic services in their cities, while at the same time spending wildly on everything but law and order, and refusing to keep violent criminals behind bars. And it's a reasonable proposal, since states and cities can't print their own money; the feds will simply print money to cover it, and the rest of us will see our savings eroded.

I see biden's handlers finally saw the poll numbers, where defunding the police was a huge loser for the Demon-Rats. So now they are trying to spin it to make it look like the Republicans were the ones wanting to defund the police, and are going to send massive amounts of money to Demon-Rat run cities to pay for their police. Of course, there will be huge strings attached, but Demon-Rats could care less.

Using Philadelphia as an example shows how stupid the idea is. Philadelphia's crime rate is on the rise. I don't know about the other cities mentioned like Cincinnati but I suspect crime is on the rise in most democratic run cities like New York and San Francisco and they will just waste any leftover Covid funds like they have all along.

The guy's a freakin moron. You don't need money to fight crime, you need some judges who have the guts to put these thugs away to serve their full sentence in prison. Every thug walking the streets has a record as long as your arm and have done no jail time. Got it.

I believe this violates the "availability as to purpose" principle of Federal Appropriations Law. Appropriated funds cannot be used for a purpose other than that for which they were appropriated by Congress without express permission of Congress, i.e. a reprogramming. Of course, our leftist government doesn't care about laws except when a Republican proposes to reprogram funds.

Thanks USGOV. Why am I paying taxes exactly? You punks printed another 2 trillion in helicopter money out of the air, debasing the dollar just that much further, and now instead of pulling the cash back because it won't be used for 'scamdemic relief', you tell the Dem cities to pizz it away on fighting crime. What a damn joke. Send the money back if it isn't needed. Crime fighting in Demholes is hopeless and a total waste of effort. Fence them in and let them kill each other.

Few illegal immigrants caught and released at the border on promises of turning themselves in to ICE later are actually showing up, defying Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ assurances of a “high rate” of compliance and leaving the department with few options for tracking the migrants down. At best, the appearance rate is less than 25%, according to data from members of Congress and from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It may actually be much lower. That means thousands of illegal immigrants have already defied their first orders from Homeland Security and become fugitives, and that bodes ill for the chances of getting them to comply with their court dates

America’s dwindling domestic shipbuilding industry has lawmakers worried about the Navy’s ability to keep up with China and Russia. Now that China has surpassed the U.S. to have the world’s largest navy, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agree that the service must make strides toward building a larger fleet. Reaching the goal, however, is hobbled by a domestic shipbuilding industry that has been in decline since the mid-1990s. The Navy currently operates just four public shipyards tasked with maintaining the nuclear-powered fleet and roughly 20 private shipyards certified to build and maintain the service’s conventionally powered ships. China, by comparison, operates more than 1,200 shipyards
