The TLC Series “1,000 Pound Sisters” has become a sneaky success, ballooning to a number 1 cable show among women between the ages 25-54 in March, a key demographic, while the second season averaged 1.5 million views.
The two-season reality TV series (Snip) follows sisters Amy and Tammy Slaton, who run a popular YouTube channel from their home in western Kentucky.
Averaging around 1,000 pounds between them at the show’s launch — before Amy began to lose the weight — the two jolly and morbidly obese women in flyover country are easy to mock and ripe for reality television, as they allow crews chronicle their glutenous lives for a nationwide audience.
Trash TV. Reality TV is the lowest form of communication on Earth. Glad I cut the cable years ago.

Memo to Author Tristan Justice: Look up the word "glutenous." Are you sure you didn't want the word "gluttonous"?

Geez…the entertainment industry would sell their 6 year old children to a pedophile ring for a few high rating points. Worthless trash who are actually worse human beings than those poor fat women they are exploiting.

Telling overweight young women they’re healthy (and beautiful) at any size is sick and dangerous. Obviously they do t have to be model thin but those obese models are not healthy and will develop serious health issues eventually.

I've seen this show and while I understand the immediate reaction, there is much more to this show. I think the girls YouTube channel (which I have never seen except in excepts) seems to be one that invites ridicule, I don't think the girls realize that.
The real premise of the show is following these sisters as the try to lose weight. They probably achieved their size because of their very dysfunctional family. There was physical and sexual abuse as children, which drives many to eat with the idea that if they become unattractive no one will abuse them again. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work and the abuse continues. Then they eat to comfort themselves because they have nothing else.
They both have sought weight loss surgery from a well known surgeon in Atlanta. Amy (400lbs) complied with the doctors orders and lost enough weight on her own to have surgery. After losing 130 lbs she became pregnant and, after a high risk pregnancy, she and her husband had a beautiful little boy. Hearing her speak about her dream of becoming a mother, and her vow to give him the happy family that she never had, was very touching. She continues to lose weight.
On the other hand, 600+ Tammy, (who appears to have some mental disability) lost about 50 lbs, far short of the goal for surgery, continues to sabotage herself. She gets jealous of her sister's success and instead of losing gained more than 100lbs in a month. The family purchase a home delivery weight loss program and she ate 37 meals in a few days. Despite major health issues, blood clots and coma's she persists and it's terribly sad. Getting to these weights is far more than just eating too much. It's a mental illness.
I think that while the one sister has been an inspiration the other is now being exploited but the money from the show is her main income now. She needs to be hospitalized in a place where they are allowed to limit her food intake.

I think these comments are mean. These girls are human beings. They had a very dysfunctional childhood and from what I've seen, most of the females on this show also had dysfunctional childhoods. Most range from sex abuse to mothers abandoning them, poor treatment from the other parent. Not everyone knows how to cope. Eating is easy and cheap. What has always puzzled me is how some of these women meet men and marry and who subsidizes the amount of food they eat. Then there are the ones bedridden who just lie there and eat. Who is getting this food and giving it to them. These are sad people. The well know what they look like. I just feel sorry for them.

I kind of stumbled on to these two ladies. Boy, you can leave your brain at home when you watch this! I have watched 90 Day Fiance a couple of times and they are about the same level. Yuck. I did learn something though - heard the word 'pansexual' for the first time but not sure what it means. I think Tammy says you can love anyone or anything. ?? It is pretty sad when reality TV is your career.

If this is a hit on tv, then we're all in trouble in this country. I suspect women like this show because it helps their self esteem even if the viewer weights 300 pounds. One look at those blown up faces would make anyone feeling a little heavy feel better about their weight.

I remember my mother regularly watching, "The Little People" with amusement. To her, the program was better than watching the animals at the zoo. She looked at the characters as abnormal creatures trained to perform and behave like normal humans. I love my mother, but I also thought she was sick and disgusting. The producer of the program and the sponsors were just as morbidly disgusting as the audience who were hooked on the show.

How can they think themselves "elite", if they waste their valuable time watching such dopey programs?

Good grief! This is hot reality TV now? If they can’t kill us off with forced experimental vaccines they’ll encourage us to stuff ourselves toward fame and fortune - and early death.
