Initial filings for unemployment insurance unexpectedly rose last week, a possible hint that the rapid job growth seen the first half of 2021 could face hurdles in the months ahead, the Labor Department reported Thursday. First-time jobless claims totaled 373,000 for the week ended July 3, compared with the 350,000 Dow Jones estimate. The previous week’s level was revised up by 7,000 from 364,000 to 371,000. The level of continuing claims, the measure of ongoing benefits, decreased to 3.34 million, down 145,000 from the previous week’s revised level. Despite the uptick in first-time applicants, the decreased number of continuing claims

Maybe because the moocher states are still offering the federal enhanced unemployment benefit

Maybe it's a hint that the rapid job growth being reported by the Xiden administration is a scam. That might also explain why the reports were so wildly more optimistic that what the independents were estimating.
Not that Team Xiden would fudge the numbers or anything...

Obviously fake news. Dementia Joe told us he created over a gazillion jobs in the first 5 minutes of his presidency. He told us the economy is roaring like a freight train. All we have to dots keep this goose that laid the golden egg going is to continue lockdowns, goobernment check to deter working, print limitless money and tax those with jobs into poverty.

There was an “unexpected” increase in jobless claims. And the previous week jobless claim number was revised up. These outcomes are predictable when democrats are in power. The leftist ruling class and their media arms should not be so predictable.

"weekly jobless claims unexpectedly rise"
Those weren't unexpected. They're tracking exactly as suspected.

There's that "unexpectedly" thing again. Hadn't heard that since the reign of Emperor Obama the First. Now that his Court Jester, Sleepy Creepy Crooked President Uncle Joe is around, I guess we'll hear it more often.

Respectfully, Poster 8, a similar word game, only in reverse, was played during the Trump Administration. For example, the number of new jobs exceeded expectations. And the number of new jobs from last week was revised upward.

Here in Maryland. The union for the unemployed are raising a fuss because the $300 extra unemployment is set to run out in about a week. I was stunned that the unemployed had a union. Do they pay dues? In any event, a crowd of the unemployed was protesting against the extra $300 ending. Many of those interviewed claimed they need that extra money for food and rent. Meanwhile, you can't throw a stone in any direction without hitting a help wanted sign. These people had time to come to a protest, but apparently don't have the time to look for a job.

No word as to what jobs were being lost. My guess are energy and manufacturing.

Isn't there a boosted child-care tax credit of $300 per month PER CHILD being sent out? Not that free money given away could replace the need to go look for work....

I refuse to work under the fraudulent administration of Josef Stolen.
I will live on savings and take any welfare I can qualify for. I am too old to actually fight in the coming civil war; but I can do my part to starve the beast, and steal its food.

Unexpectedly???? I been saying for weeks that this economy thank to Xiden is a mess, inflation is through the roof and because of that inflation consumers have less money to spend on discretionary spending. They are paying more for food, gas, utilities and the rest of they necessities.

Shut down more oil industry jobs ... and increase taxes on oil companies. That'll fix it.

JoBama was “elected” to make this exact thing happen. To finish the job that The Won failed to do in eight years.
Who will stop it?

Still paying people not to work. A very, very bad idea.
End all unemployment payments and miraculously, people will "find work".
